Not sure why those ads in particular are popping up for you, but if Cattle Today wanted to go first class, they would charge a yearly fee to members for server expenses and stop allowing those stupid azz ads completely.
That depends on how often any particular member opens a new page, and how many times per day they do.
On many boards, there is an option that allows ad free usage for about $20/yr. On a really busy board, it is easy or common to have a member open 20-50 new pages in any 24 hour period. They'll usually see 2-3 ads in each new page they open which equals as many as 150 of what the ad industry calls CPI..Cost Per Impression. They look at it from a cost perspective and call an ad view an 'impression'..they impressed a product on to your memory. They don't pay per impression, they pay per 1000 impressions, which they call Cost Per Mille (pronounced cost per mile) Mille is Latin for 1000.
(there are other rates for clicking on an ad or click thru too)
In 2018, Google reported it's average CPM payout was $2.80. $2.80 for every 1000 ad views or impressions.
So one member has a total of 150 impressions per day. Multiply X 365 days, then ÷ by 1000 and that = 54.7 cpms X $2.80=$153.20 per year each average member generates in ad revenue. That's about what a yearly membership fee would have to run to make up for lost ad revenue for the most of us.
Most ad revenue I suspect comes not from us members, but from 'visitors/guests'. No matter what time of day or day of the week, guests far outnumber registered members on almost every discussion board. @ 2am (right now) there are 35 guests viewing CT and only 6 registered members and of those 6, only 1/2 are real people.
In total there are 42 users online :: 6 registered, 1 hidden and 35 guests (based on users active over the past 5 minutes)
Most users ever online was 563 on Fri Nov 23, 2018 7:08 pm
Registered users: Bing [Bot], crimsoncrazy, Google [Bot], Google Adsense [Bot], greybeard, T & B farms
Yesterday, during the day, there were 170 guests viewing CT and only 6 registered flesh and blood members. Those 170 guests generated way more ad impressions than the members did.
Making CT a 'paid subscription only' website would cut off the majority of ad payouts to the owner.
Google is an ad agency that just happens to own a search engine...
