Adjusting SR112 Rake

So I've got about 30 acres in using our new SR112 rake and it does a pretty nice job. It's taking a little getting use to but should good. The way it was set up when we got it, the working width was good and the finished windrow width was good. So we really only had to play with the pressure. My question is though. It seem like the back wheels have a lot more pressure on it then the the front ones. Is this just the way the 12 wheel versions are or should I maybe play with working width a little and might help it balance better. Still a great rake though. Just need to tweak it.

I am sorry I can't remember how the adjustment for pressure work or if there is one
if not you might try adjusting drawbar height I don't think adjusting width will help you any

If there is an adjustment for the levelness of the arms when lowered that would be how to do it. I've never seen one withthat adjustment and all of them I've seen have more pressure on the back wheels then the forward ones.
One ours there is only a couple of inches difference from front to back

The draw bar was one of the first things we changed. I'm not sure we can lower it anymore. I think we really just need to play with it more.

Thinking logically...(OH CRAP)..that would probably be the case....as you are raking more hay (= more hay) towards the back of the rake it should take more ground pressure to keep things moving. ?

I've got a SR110 & I used a hitch on the 3pt for the rake. Makes it much easier to level the rake out front to rear. If I want to change tractors just put the hitch on the other tractor, level it out and go.

I just thought of another question. When lowering the arms with the hydraulics. Do you lower until the rake teeth touch, put into float and let the spring take it from there or do you let the hydraulics drive the arms/wheels as far they will until they stop?

put it in float otherwise it can't follow the contours of the ground and like was said earlier the rear wheels should have more pressure than the front

We apply pressure until the are started down, then float and allow gravity to pull the wheels down.
