I've got 3 steers that have a processing date coming up soon, one never really ate as much feed as the other 2, now he is not eating at all, looks like he could crap through a screen door but still has quite a bit of corn in it. I have them up to 50 lbs/whole shell corn between them a day (15 lbs in morning and 35 in afternoon), this steer went off of feed Monday but was still passing corn yesterday (Wednesday). He probably weighs 1100 lbs. I have free choice hay and water in the lot, there is some grass in the lot but not much. I've noticed him picking at the the hay left where another bale was fed before but not at the fresh bale. I started putting feed grade lime in their feed when I noticed him going off feed but with him not eating it won't do much good. Any suggestions or ideas? I've had them go off feed before but not this bad.
 
25 lbs morning and evening would be better than 15/35.
Baking Soda or sodium bicarbonate or some type of rumin buffer.
If he weighs 1,100 he’s only getting 1.4% body weight in corn. With free choice roughage that shouldn’t screw him up.
Any major weather changes? It’s been miserable hot here. All the big cattle have backed off feed some.

It’s actually cooled off here some, was really hot last week.

I found a piece of net wrap laying in the lot, I’m hoping that’s not his issue. I’m religous about removing net wrap but apparently missed some.
 
I picked up some baking soda this evening and mixed some with his water and put some free choice, locked him in the corral and forked him some hay in. We shall see.
 
He’s still passing corn and there is some blood in the stool. hasn’t touched the free choice baking soda but has drank the water with it in there.
I gave him some probios this morning. He is eating hay.
 
Steer seems to be doing better, acts like he has some appetite. How long should I let him recover before going back on feed? I'm assuming I'll have to start him slow and work him up again. His kill date is 9/25 so I'm afraid if he loses too much I might need to push that out a few months and just take the 2 that are ready now or possibly see if they can go ahead and get him in now. Any thoughts on when I should butcher him after this set back? Other than foundering one, I've never had any health problems before butchering. I sure don't want to sell an inferior product.
