A Year Gone By.....

Almost time to pop the cork and wish everyone a Happy New Year but before we do that it may be nice sharing some of our ups and downs of 2012, I'll start -

It felt like I was fighting the world the first half of the year, was coping but it was as if nothing wanted to pan out. Second half arrived(must have something to do with the planets or mindset) and everything started slotting in. From a material point of view I have bought a further property and got my new vehicle last Friday but as we know material things cannot make us happy for ever - happiness has got to come from within. I cannot say there have been any really major ups or downs this year though, apart from my brother's jaw cancer. He had to have his jaw replaced and is doing OK. Otherwise a pretty uneventfully year........as far as I can remember :roll: :help:

I have no complaints if I die tonight I have had a good run.
Good wife, family and kid's everything else is trival.
Now I am like my ole Uncle Robert I know Heaven is my home just aint homesick yet.
 
Wow, another year is passing. It was an uneventful year at the farm. We had calves and sold calves. Still dry but raining this week. The family is doing great. My children and grand kids were here for the holidays and what a time. They left this morning and already miss them. Unknown what is going to happen the next four years but I am sure we will muddle through it. At least we can grow our gardens and raise our animals. Probably everyone on this forum can do the same. So it is a grand life. I learn more daily on this board and I thank all who contribute. Heck I even enjoy the infighting between different parties. My door is always open, so if in the area drop in for a feast and a drink, or if you need a helping hand. Stay safe and Happy New Year. Bill
 
This has been an eventful year for my family. Top stories are, one son and DIL made my wife and I grand parents, one son joined the Air Force, and got married. Oldest daughter became engaged to be married. We survived the drought better than most in our area (that's a blessing right there). I sold my business in March, and had reservations of doing so, but given the state of the union that may prove to have been one of my wiser decisions. I took a job making more $ with less headache, and have more time to spend with family and the cattle. Come March I will be eligible for my first paid vacation ever.
I was born with the genetic predisposition to be an optimist, however I am concerned about my childrens future and doing all I can to prepare them. I can't help but pray for the best at the same time I'm preparing for the worst. Best wishes to all of you and your families this coming year.
 
I honestly feel like I may be the most blessed man on the planet. Wonderful wife, awesome kids, great career, the farm is growing fast, and God is good. The only disheartening thing that happened this year was the first week in November when I realized my kids will never know the country I grew up in, and my grandfather fraught for. Life is actually really good as long as I stay away from the news.
 
A typical year for me....very very very blessed once again so who could ask for anything more? I try to be the eternal optimist and always see the glass half full and find something to laugh and smile about. Hope everyone stays safe celebrating the New Year and hope you all have a great 2013.

P.S. I voted for the American. :mrgreen: Now I'm back to the bunker.

November was a kick in the nuts that I didn't need but I'll live and in a way it's good because it's pushed me to fight and I'm usually not so passionate about politics.

We were able to buy a property that adjoined our five acre home place. The property was given to a woman from a poineer family that came here around the same time as my family by my great, great somewhere in there grandfather and she built the home that I'm sitting in in the late 1800's. It's been passed back and forth between pioneer families until about twenty years ago when the last owner moved in. He'd been begging me to buy it for the last year and really wanted it to go back into my family but I closed escrow on a big ranch about three days before he told me he was moving. :bang: Luckily (for me) the housing market crashed and he finally walked over to my house and said "make me an offer" and I got it for an unbelievable price. :D

Papa I may be the only one here that knows where you're little piece of heaven (Dew) is located. Someday I'm going to make it over their and we'll drink a little "busthead" together and do some trash talking. ;-)
 
I'm just sitting here playing poker with my kids, using Federal Premium .22 ammo as "chips" and listening to Willie's Road House on the satellite radio. The CCI brand is reserved for special hands. ;-) I'm very concerned about ali. She might be wiped out by now. HOW ARE YOU DOING ALI :banana: :bday: :tiphat: ???????? We need an update from the bottom side of the world. Or, it could be the top side top side of the world and modern science has it all screwed up. Don't matter; top/bottom, as long as we don't fall off.....
Life is good here at the Ouachita house this evening. Nothing like a seeing the faces of kids when they win a hand of poker, and the take is something more valuable than money. This is one of those nights that I feel very comfortable in telling the world to k
 
Had a great year. The highlight was the 4000mile road trip to Alberta Canada and the visit with Mr and Mrs Hillsdown. Our grandaughters are happy and well and we are inching closer to retirement (from the day jobs anyway).

The cows are cows some victories and some real bad disapointments(the red bull calf who's nuts never dropped.) But it's all good and looking forward to the bull sales in the spring. Meanwhile Double V and I are reloading and getting ready to try to raise the next GV superbull!(haha).

Know it's a bit late but I had a great year, Three new gorgeous baby granddaughters and of cause my eldest one is a true blessing, Son settled into a good job, and with a very good girlfriend. Life at the moment is good.
