Maybe he was going to use twine, but used net on accident, and then said "ah! screw it" and turned them out so he didn't have to go through the enduring challenge of removing net, that so many seemed to be plagued by.

I don't under stand what the big deal is. When feeding in a pasture you don't have the mud bogs and after the bale is eaten or wasted the hay the leftover's can be pushed out of the field or piled and burnt.
