Checked one of my hay fields that just didn't look right and found a large infestation of army worms. A little early I thought but it is a full moon I think.
 
Maybe that's the advantage of havin crappy fields. The army worms (knock on wood) have never hit us

Didn't know for sure. Looked late last night and it was awfully bright but the moon was hid behind the trees. Usually I get the worms later in the year on a full moon but this year they seem to be early.

Dun, they sure don't bother my bahia grass at all. I've seen a few in these fields but looks like they are always marching toward the bermuda.

Just finished spraying. Sure wish I could still buy Lannate.
 
Neighbor lady gets hit every year. The only others I know of are on the far side of town. She's a darn good spraying customer. When she calls at the first hint of them, MFA drops everything and rush out to her place.
 
I just finished spraying one field where the terragator from the coop had shown up to spread fertilizer. I started spraying after he started spreading and I noticed he constantly stopped the spreader to mess with his phone. I ended up finishing the field about 20 minutes before he finished spreading even though he was throwing a 60 foot swath to my 16'. Now I understand why they have such a backlog on their spreading jobs.

Yeah, I'm sure it was.:lol2: Just did a walk-thru of the field to see how it was working and I'm amazed at the number of army worms in the field. Normally the cowbirds will tip you off but I didn't see the first one till this morning. Good thing is I laid the insecticide on them good and they are all dancing on the dirt right now but this is the biggest infestation I've ever seen. Probably cause of global warming.
