I'm not a Hereford expert. I just love breeding them to my purbred angus for replacement heifers.

I have a freind who paid around 14 grand on an open heifer last year. He bought it out at Denver last year. All the price means to me is that somebody may have spent too much! :) This spring they have been flushing this heifer.

He said this 8039 is one of the bulls he is going to use. Does anyone know anything about this bloodline? Frame score and milk?

A name he metioned also was Marvin Feddes. Ring any bells??

I can't believe all these folks that are flushing heifers. Besides the increased chance of not getting the hormones right and ruining them for much, if not all, of their productive life, they have no idea if she is even capable of having and raising a good calf on her own. :roll:

8039 doesn't ring a bell with me - and also doesn't get any hits on the AHA AI Book.

Are you sure that 8039 isn't the heifer's number?

There's someone from Maquoketa, Iowa (Deppe) that bought a Colyer heifer with that number(bought for $14,750) - but she was purchased in their Internet sale, not at Denver.

Most breeders wouldn't breed her to the bull you mentioned, as he is her grandsire. If you wanted to stack the 157K influence, there are a number of 157K sons that would work, including Feddes' 765:

Edited to add: regenweather, if I was the person who purchased this heifer, I'd take advantage of that relationship and go back to Guy Colyer and ask for his input as to which bull to use. Guy has a real talent for choosing matings that get phenomenal results - especially if show prospects are the desired offspring.
