Hay was so short this year that salt grass was being baled for cattle in those parts.

If I am not mistaken the Peltier family has most of the land in that area lease up for their cattle.

Big player's in that part of the country has been the La Compte's, Peltier's and Tacquard's for years. From Alvin south and west you were most likely on there land. I can't for the life of me remember the Old bohieman man that had most from Iowa Colony to Rosharon in rice farm. it is mostly sub division today and chicken coops ( apartments).

Most people down there don't hay . They burn the salt grass and graze it all winter . I had a guy call me to cut 4000 acres down that way this year . I know a guy that cut 25000 bales this summer of salt grass . He tore up 2 cutters and a baler .

I reread my post and I wasn't clear. You are correct. The salt grass hay was actually being baled and sent off to other parts of Texas.

What eats salt grass,

I don't have salt grass but what I do have is goat weed- carpet grass- Bermuda. There was a farmer that was baling some grain or corn stock just down the road.
Geese man am I in the fly zone and the dove hunting is great there is a few hogs. I just put a contract on 106 ac right beside the 60 some day it may pay off.

Capt I hate to tell you this you have no idea what geese were like in the sixties when all of that country was in rice,
Sky's would be balck with greater and lesser Canadian's Snow's Blue's and Speckle Bellies.

PS Used to every once in awhile Artic Swan's would show up. Hadn't heard of anyone seeing them in years.
Have you seen any?

I don't even know what they look like. They still plant rice all around me and they have lakes across the dirt road. Dove haven there are still a few deer, but quite a few hogs. If I hunter Geese I would have a prime Loacation
