55 gal feed barrels

Can rats chew through the 55 gal blue plastic barrels? I have metal ones I put feed in and was wanting to get some more. The plastic ones are cheap around 10$ the metal ones are 30$.

We've had feed in the plastic ones for 15 years and other than a coon trying to gnaw it's way in (unsuccesfully), nothing has bothered them.

I would think rats will chew through the plastic barrels myself. I know squirrels will chew through a plastic barrel if you put corn in it and use it as a deer feeder.

If you don't care to drive there is a guy on Forge Creek in Mountain City has the metal ones for $10. That is where I get mine.

All of my hounds food has been in plastic barrels for years never been breached by anything.

Nothing is going to chew THROUGH a plastic barrel. If there's a hole, like on a feeder, squirrels will make that hole larger. But they can't start the hole thmeselves.

i have plastic barrels that I keep feed in and have manufactured lids for them....for a while I hap problems with squirrels finding a gap in the lid and carving our a u big enough for them to go in and out.

opening a barrel top and having a squirrel do gymnastics off your shoulder and head makes for an exciting afternoon...

have not had the problem lately....I am sure that we did not kill them all....did have a wild cat show up in the barn so I put a can of cat food out every evening for him to keep him around....he lays on top of the hay and watches til the dogs and I are gone....
