Just looking for feedback, I was recently told by the Genex rep that I could give both PG shots after pulling the CIDR at the same time at opposite ends and corners of the animal instead of giving both doses 8 hours +/- 2 hrs apart. He said others have being doing this way to eliminate a trip through the chute and its apparently working. Has anyone else heard this or had experience with it?
 
Been doing it for a couple of years - have done it both ways - 2 shots or one double dose. Couldn't tell any difference. I opt for the one trip through with double dose.
But... we never do timed AI with it, only on observed heat.. too much variability. Last spring, we had cows in heat anywhere from 36 hrs post-injection to 7 days post-injection - would have missed at least a quarter of them (maybe more) if we'd been doing strictly TAI, by being too late inseminating or way too early - and these were cows that were well over 60 days post-partum, in good condition, cycling well prior to synch.
 
I dont like the 5 day for what thats worth. I use 7 day.
PG is a half life drug, if I understand it rite means it's absorbed immediately, if that's the case why give them 10cc's of something that only takes 5cc's to do the job, its not even by weight it's by the head, same dose for 800lb heifer or 1500lb cow. I would think if a double dose at the same time made any difference, there would be something backing it up. Seems like a waste of 2 bucks.
