Three beautiful Beefmaster heifers 6 months breed came through I backed off
@ 1950 and dang if they didn't go for 2K.
I am still PO'd at myself as I have three older girls I was going to cull after they raise their calf on them.
What was I thinking that would have made those heifers a thousand a piece as replacements. :bang: :bang: :bang:

Mrs. just added insult to injury said you not a very smart man today.
Ask what is wrong with you. :dunce:

CB your slipping backing off those comm beefmaster bred heifers.because they was a steal.they shouldve sold for $2500 to $3000.

You are right my neighbor gave me that are you stupid look as well one the order buyers.
I was trying to get them to sell choice as I wanted two of them a lot worse than the third
and had them there when the Auctioneer called last chance and the biding got hot.
There was a lot of people there today I figured a bidding war and bailed out.

On another note.
Our kill cow prices have slipped due to the San Antonio plant closing.
Those kill cows that had to stand four to six hours now have to stand 10 to 12.
Along with the extra miles of freight.
We have lost half of our Sale Barns in the last 15 years and in reality there are only enough
cows to keep 2 of 3 left running up near normal numbers.

If I were you I think I would have hit those heifers a few more licks. Could have cost sevarel more dollars and still been reasonable in my opinion.

You are right I just paid the stupid tax today.
Bad part is it still happens from time to time after all these years
just one of those days when tax was due.

I do that way to often :D.

About a year ago I had been buying some cows and had got all I could afford. Then at the sale the next week I see 4 outstanding 1000lb horned hereford heifer pairs with 200lb black baldy bull calves, I don't have the money but I start thinking of what I could re sell the next week to pay for them, I finally decide I should pass on them, the owner sets them in at 1500$ and they bring 2400$, haven't seen any horned Herefords that good at sale ever before that or since, I still think about them.

Denver back in 2013 the drought was over plenty of pasture. I passed on some of the prettiest gray brimmer girls I ever saw and they were reasonable. I was thinking I am fixin make me some F-1 Brangus girls.
The fellow said what is wrong with my cattle when I told I had to pass.
Said you are, he had them so high headed I figured it would take me 6 months to forever
to get them calmed down and trusting enough to work by myself.
Ten years ago I would bought them no matter how high headed they were.

Amazing what they're going for now.
Were there a lot of slaughter bulls?

GB only about a half dozen bulls went through today.
There were some really good heifers went through I was kinda shocked.
Those Beefmaster heifers were out of registered stock and went through near the end
and most had spent their money by the time they came through.
I am still kicking my butt those were some of the best girls I have seen in a long time.

Special sale I went too had heifers bred by ai that didn't catch then a bull and didn't take so they left it in the field with the bull and called those open but exposed heifers and they sold for what the 6 mos breds you say today.

CB dont feel to bad ive got a man coming to look at 1 of my heifers today.the calf is out of 1 of the reg cows i bought off of him a few years ago.so i was thinking about pricing him a cow that i would only sell to him.

Would rather be paying the underbid tax than the overbid tax..... :D

Back in '08 or '09 I had already bought some replacements I wanted when the last group of 7 really nice angus open heifers came in. Folks were already getting up and leaving. Auctioneer started them and didn't get a bid...he dropped the price $200...took about five seconds and my hand went up....and I caught em... Had this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach because I had already bought all I needed. Called a buddy of mine up and told him what I had done and told him if he wanted a couple of them I'd let him have them for what I paid for them. He said he might take a couple. When he came by to look at them he took all 7. Can't say that was the best deal I ever made....well a pretty good deal for him, they are some nice cows today.

CB, don't feel like you are the Lone Ranger on passing up deals. Yesterday at Van Zandt, I just at there and passed on an Angus X Braunvieh cross 2 yr. old that was 5 months bred. They started the heifer at $1800 and nobody got in. They backed her to $1600 and one man bid and they sold her for $1625. Heifer weighed 905 and would have made a nice cow.

Last weekend I was at a Beefmaster sale in Crockett and it seemed like some of the ones I wanted were always going for 100-250 more than I wanted to pay. I was after one pair and I dropped out around $5,000 she went for $6,000. I really wanted that pair I passed on two 13 month olds I could of had for around $2,500 each to chase that pair now I regret not going after the yearlings.

Wow, your slaughter prices really do suck!.. Just got my market report today... Butcher cows $1.25 to $1.40, Butcher bulls $1.50 to $1.74... even considering our weaker exchange rate.
the calf prices are about similar though

One of my neighbors sold a scrawny 4 yr old Jersey bull at Livingston 2 weekends ago after it nearly killed him--got $1 or 1.10/pound for it--I don't remember now. I saw it on the trailer and wouldn't have thought it would bring 1/2 that.
Got one I'm fixing to take to the same barn tommorrow if things work out. (if it doesn't rain cats and dogs all night tonight)
