Looking for a maternal continental breed to cover angus/herf F1s. I am told on average simi has a better carcass - - but GV is more maternal. What is your experience ?

I would say it's milk.Stocker Steve":3pyscb9l said:3waycross":3pyscb9l said:Of course you know my vote is Gelbvieh. I would have gone the other way though. Red Gv bull on Herf cows and then an Angus on the calves.
How is GV X more complementary for replacements vs. than the traditional herf X angus cross ?

Genex has 2 black "gelbvieh" bulls in their lineup. http://genex.crinet.com/beef/index.php? ... eh&lang=ENStocker Steve":3mwdzzs0 said:I have 3 small herfs left from the running age cows I bought in 2009. I keep almost all their heifers. I had been using a balancer bull on them but he is gone now.
I bought another 35 short term cows this winter - - and most are herfs... (I told the BA neighbors I was planning to get rich by holding a Herf dispersal.) The cows are starting to calve now and I need to expand the bull battery. I have one red and one black simi breeder locally, and the Genex AI book is full of simi x BA bulls. I would need to travel for GV or balancer.
Just what everyone is looking for, bulls with a BW of 96 and 99 lbsshortybreeder":am24nysx said:Genex has 2 black "gelbvieh" bulls in their lineup. http://genex.crinet.com/beef/index.php? ... eh&lang=ENStocker Steve":am24nysx said:I have 3 small herfs left from the running age cows I bought in 2009. Some people actually are looking for that. Also, any mature cow should be able to easily handle that.dun":17stj9i2 said:Just what everyone is looking for, bulls with a BW of 96 and 99 lbsshortybreeder":17stj9i2 said:Genex has 2 black "gelbvieh" bulls in their lineup. http://genex.crinet.com/beef/index.php? ... eh&lang=ENStocker Steve":17stj9i2 said:I have 3 small herfs left from the running age cows I bought in 2009.
