Anyone seriously deer hunt with one?
Would you have problems using one to hunt Axis.
Have the opportunity to pick up a Ruger #1 in 243 with a Mannlicher stock.
I don't shoot one but how much shipped to me?

I think thats too high.

I say let KT buy it, but back to the original question.

The 243 is the finest whitetail rifle for ranges less than 400 or so. I know I'm gonna hear from all the folks that say anything less than a 300 Mag won't kill deer, but they're wrong. I actually know a bear guide that uses one for his guide gun. He has been at it for over 30 years and says that at close range it kills bear quicker than anything he has ever used.

Love our .243's. Very accurate, low recoil and cheap to reload. We use Nosler partitions, for deer. Most people don't understand that jacketed bullets expand too fast, in these calibers, for deer sized game. Worse than a hollow point. Need a bullet to hold together and dump energy farther into the body cavity. Most punch on through. Great all around midwest cartridge.

I have one, it is a BLR. My kids all shot deer with it. I liked it for a kids gun as I could look over at it and see if the hammer was cocked. I shot a couple deer with it. I also lost the biggest buck I ever shot at with it. Only deer that I ever hit and lost. It will certainly work on deer but I think it is at the low end of power. That said I know a guy who successfully uses one for elk but he hunts where shots are close and he is careful to pick his shot.

They are pretty powerful. I let my BIL shoot mine as he had been in the military before for four years. I don't know what he did (apparently didn't hold the for-end enough), but the scope put a cut on his forehead that required stitches. I couldn't believe it as he was not happy and I bout told him to take the gun with him. I don't offer to let other shoot my guns now, lesson learned. I am glad it wasn't the .308 or 30-06 as it would have layed him out.

No problem taking axis with a .243. In fact it's a great caliber for it. Ear hole that sucker... you aren't going to want to waste any of that meat.

I have more 243 rifles than any other caliber by far. I only bought my 308 and an OU shotgun because some of the places I get invited to frown on smaller calibers and semi autos. Although I dont agree, I was not going to let ideological differences get in the way of free hunts. :)

That's really nice cb, love me some good wood, and a no 1 at that! I admit I'm not crazy about the caliber, although very capable.

She's killed several whitetail in Arkansas with her's. (she's one of those 'shoots lefty but uses right eye' folks)
I was like that. Now I can shoot equally as well with either hand

Were you happy with the iron sights or did you put a scope on it?

It has a scope but nothing fancy. Just a straight 4 power. Remember kids were carrying it..... and dropping it. No one has used it to hunt with in years. My kids are all in their 30's. But there is a grand daughter who is planning on using it this fall.

I haven’t seen a BLR come through the shop in years. Seen some of the new Henry Long Rangers in assorted calibers.

I can't get any consistency with the iron sights on mine. Probably my eyesight just not what it used to be.

I have used a 243 on white tails. Oddest one was one I shot and it continued grazing for probably a minute before it sort of drooped and fell dead. Never saw that before or since.
