The boss just unloaded the first group at the home place. I think they are going to take off on all this millet!

He is headed back to the farm for the last load.

I refuse to complain about the rain. This millet was planted on 5/17 if that tells you just how much rain we have been getting. I think we have had rain 18 out of the past 20 days or at least it seems like it. We are overrun with grass which is a wonderful problem to have for sure. I just pray it doesn't shut off on us.

I will sure get some once they have some time to settle in a bit. We kept 29 to develop this year, but we cull throughout the year with a final culling at yearling weight time. I have a couple on the radar to use next breeding season, just waiting to see how they develop to make the final decision. One is out of the 811 cow and SAV Recharge 3436 another is out of SAV Resource 1441 and Blackcap May 2315 he is an ET calf. The third is right now a tie between a Recharge calf out of a young cow 324 and Recharge 3436 and a calf out of our herd bull 1339 and our Blackcap May 0524 donor. Both these calves look really good right now and to be honest we only need to keep two of the four so decisions decisions. I will send three to the Florida Bull Test of the four listed above but they will not be offered for sale this year.

We personally, love our Resource calves. My husband can pick them out of anyone's herd.
We have several replacement heifers out of him this last year and a good portion of bull calves on the ground this year, not sure how many will be cut prior to bull sale but was one of the favorites at this past years sale.
 
We like our Resource calves. The daughters we have in production are doing us an excellent job as well. The boss and I are going to Schaff in August I hope to see him in person. Pretty excited about the tour of their operation.

They have some folks just a couple miles down the road that have been part of their donor program for some time and they lease some pasture next to us. We've seen some high dollar progeny for years. We always joke, if the bull jumps the fence, we aren't saying anything! :cowboy:

The millet at the home place is doing much better than what we planted at the farm. I have no idea why same batch of seed, fertilized the same way. Only difference is farm was planted three weeks ahead of home place. The bull babies are in the millet right by the drive so you will for sure be able to see them. They are full for sure.

While we were on our great adventure Mike our herdsman and our son Jacob were taking care of things. i had planned to send three Bulls to the Florida bull test and we did, but Jacob decided to send D34 reg # 18807242 a Charlo out of a young cow Gizmo Elluna 1363 942 9R9 instead of D26 reg# 18807240 a Recharge out of our 811 cow. We also sent D13 reg# 18807237 and D45 reg# 18807913 we received the warm up info on our way home on Tuesday. It looks like our calves have settled into the test pretty well hopefully they will stay healthy. I haven't had a chance to do anything but look at the ones here since we arrived home. From what I saw driving by they are putting on good growth, the millet is staying ahead of them which is sure a good problem to have. It is going to take awhile to get caught up!

We received the official first weight on the three bulls we have at the Florida test. Hopefully they continue doing well, currently we have the second ranked Angus bull D13 Test ID 1676 This young bull has been a stud since birth, he is out of SAV Recharge 3436. Out next bull D45 is the 5th ranked Angus this is an ET calf that is about as powerful as you can make one. D45 has been a favorite since birth. Out next bull comes in as the 11th ranked Angus D34 this young bull out of Coleman Charlo and a cow that goes back to our Foundation donor Sweetwater Elluna 0168.

Congratulations on how your bulls are doing. A good breeding plan and sticking with it pays off. We don't see as many of the SAV cattle around here but what I do I really like.
 
Are you getting any carcass data back from your steers? We hit 60% Prime this year. Prime gets us $0.35/lb more than Choice. Genomic/DNA tested all of the commercial heifers and hope to hit 80% Prime in two years.

It took a group of us sticking to a plan for several years to get there. Glad I didn't have to make the culling decisions because a lot of cows didn't make it. The funky looking bull I used on my hobby cattle is responsible fora lot of the progress. He will be the only bull that made it here for 5 years. Super efficient bull, too.
