I know most of you are cummins fans but I love Ford (personal preference). I have a JD 5085E with loader and couple implements that will fit on my trailer that I only pull once or twice a year but its a 4hr trip one way, do you think I'm abusing the truck? I have airbags on the rear which level the truck with the load, mostly pulling the tractor and a batwing bush hogg sometime a 8ft tiller. The truck seems to handle it pretty good with the air bags, as you know ford has a soft suspension so if you get a ford by a air bag kit first.

No offense, your truck , your trailer and tractor....I am not the load police. Each state has them on the pay roll. Short answer is yes if you have the trailer and experience to pull.

NEVER WILL I BE A DODGE FAN. Abusing the truck a lot of variables go into that equation.

Edit: If you drive that truck daily or fairly regularly ... YOU SHOULD KNOW... If you are putting something mean on the truck out of how it acts and handles. I know whenever I'm hauling if I am putting strain on the truck whether it be a pick up dump truck or tractor trailer you can just feel it if you drive the truck enough.

alot of people are pulling alot more with a 250 every day. Wouldn't bother me to drive it and at only a couple times a year I doubt you will notice any major mechanical affects from it. If you were hauling that kind of load every day I would reccomend a different truck.

He doesn't know what he's missing out on. :hide:
I find it strange that the big controversy on trucks used to be chevy or ford... now's it's dodge or ford, and chev is hardly on the map.. heck, a lot of guys working in the bush here are driving Toyota Tundras now.

As for the truck being able to handle it.. I don't think it should be a problem... some places require you to have an endorsement on your drivers license if your trailer weighs over 10,000 lbs, and make sure the insured GVW of the truck is the weight of the truck, the trailer, and the payload (again, this may vary between places). I think the new F150's say they have a 10,500 lb towing capacity (if you can believe that), so I think you should be ok with an F250 diesel.

THe shipping weight of the tractor is 7900 plus I have a H263 loader so that put is at least at 8500 a batwing cutter is going be at least 3500 on the light side.

You don't need a CDL unless your hauling over 26,0000.

I do drive the truck as a daily driver....Everything else I tow is light (polaris ranger). I tow the tractor on a 27ft+5 dovetail low pro gooseneck, on long trips I'll load the cutter and tracor backwards to reduce weight on the front. Without air bags it would be a brutal ride, my friend has 2011 Dodge 3500 without airbags and with the same trailer and load it handles it OK but it would be better with airbags.

And you are hauling right at or a little over 26k, 27+5 trailer is about 5500lbs, truck I would guess between 9 and 10k and tractor and brushog add up to atleast 12k. Your at about 27k on the light side. All thought there are alot of people doing this kind of hauling without out a cdl and never getting cought, technically your there. But just by a little and I wouldn't worry about it.

BCG I got pm's with your message in it this is my message to you... I don't know if you are married or not frankly don't give a dam but maybe if you are you should spend time riding your husbands D... instead of mine. I suggest you use some reading skills before always trying to belittle and pick apart everything I say. Since you seem to loose your mind when it comes to me I will explain my response so that even you can understand it.

Ok I hope you can follow along with that..... I would certainly hope that I know what an f-250 is seeing as I have several. I hope you have yourself a happy 4th :tiphat:

Thanks for all the responses, I have all the weights of what I'm towing......Trailer 6700......Tractor 8600......Cutter....3400....truck 8100.....total 26800. CDL needed

Truck is lighter than I thought it would be. Do what you want, but I wouldn't be concerned about that 800lbs over 26k.

I may be backwards but the first thing I would do is call your local ford dealer and give them the VIN and have them tell you the specs for that particular truck. It may have the heavy tow package or it may be just a standard truck. After getting that information I woudl decide if I should be concerned about the weight (although I would go ahead and pull it anyway) or if I would be comfortable pulling that much. But I'm one of those that likes to get as much data in hand. Although sometimes it still doesn;t stop me from doing what I wanted anyway.

Close to 26k total here

you'll be fine.
Good thing you are not in Texas. That trailer is a min. of 20k gross weight( I am guessing 10k axles?, maybe 12 k?) Throw in the min. 8800 lb gross 3/4 ton Dodge.
You are by MFG ratings over 26001 lbs..Loaded or empty. Might want to double check Tn. laws, unless you run Farm Plates. In Texas, thats a ticket waiting to happen.
