my wifes car is a 2002 sunfire --apparently there is a problem with the gas tank vent plugging up on gravel roads--the solution is to run a hose from the vent-- up under the hood (so my mechanic guy tells me) --anyone know how to do this????

I'd want those fumes behind me. Not in front.

Got a neighbor that has a MF tractor with cab. Made in France. The vent for the diesel fuel tank was run inside the cab. Something went wrong with the fuel return system and diesel fuel started running down the cab window from the vent. MF fix was to drill a hole in the cab and let it run outside until they came up with what was causing the problem.

I don't have an answer for the problem but I wouldn't vent it under the hood. One bad spark plug wire and boom, if there's a lot of fumes at the time.
 
You can't "vent" it anyway. It must be connected to an evaporative cannister which is under the hood. This is part of the emissions system. If you try venting it the vehicle won't pass the your state's emissions test.

Sorry about that. I don't know what the emissions requirements are in Canada.
 
Mechanic probably means feed it into the inlet manifold ,burn up the fumes

Dont see what a gravel road would have to do with it though. Sounds like a way to get some work out of you
 
I'm not sure what the problem is here, but there is no open vent from the fuel tank. It does have a return line that vents into the emission system but there is no vent that allows fuel vapors to excape into open air.

What are the symptons? Fuel smell? Is your check engine light illuminated?
