Didnt want to hijack the Happy Independance Day post, but it got me wondering how yall felt about Houston's new professional soccer team.

The original name was to be "1836" to recognize the year that the city of Houston was founded. Shirts, caps, and everything else to promote the team was printed and selling in stores.

Now, they are gonna change the name because the Mexican American population in and around Houston are saying that they are offended by the name because, as we all know in Texas, that was the year Sam Houston kicked Santa Anna's a$$ gaining Texas' Independance from Mexico.

Any thoughts?

Let us keep our pride and our history - name them "1836".

This stuff is getting out of hand. Remember when Clinton apoligized to Japan for WWII? What a crock.

We're having the same sort of problems here with the U of Illinois nickname Fighting Illini. Some people love being offended and playing the poor wittle victim game.

There were Mexicans right there in the Alamo and at San Jacinto fighting along side the Texans. No different than the Americans fighting for independence against England, the home country for many. If a family has been here for all those generations, they are more Texan than many folks living here today. Those families are not Mexican.

Do we stop celebrating the 4th of July because it offends the English?
