1130/1135 Massey Question

My 1130 Massey has a slow leak in one of the back tires, and the tire is so worn out, its just not worth fixing. Its a 23.1-34, an oddball size, and a new tire is $1400. Since both tires are poor, I'd be looking at $2800, plus changeover, etc etc etc. I can't find anything used.

Of the guys around the coffee shop table said that the rims on my 1135 (with 38" rims) would bolt right on, as all that was different was that the wheel chocks were simply longer to act as spacers. I got looking, and sure enough, the chocks were simply longer to spacer the rim away from the hub, however the hub itself had spots machined away for a shoulder on the chock to sit into. So no go there, as my 1130 doesn't have the machined out hub.

But then I got looking a little further, and noticed that the hubs themselves appear to only be held on by 4 bolts, and the bolt pattern seems to match up between the 1130 and 1135. So has anyone ever swapped rims between these two tractors. Any gotchas? Anything I'm missing? Something hidden in behind a wheel weight thats going to make me wish I'd simply dished out the 3 grand for new 38s?

Diamond S: For older tractors we like to consult with the true experts........contact your nearest tractor wrecker: they often know what interchanges with what and whether it will fit! Sometimes they'll even have a decent set of tires on rims that will save a lot of money over new. It gets tough with an older tractor to know how much to justify spending on repairs and upkeep but a good running older tractor will do just about anything a newer one will!!!
 
Our two local wreckers can't be counted on for good info, and the two Massey dealers are giving me conflicting answers, so I thought maybe I would toss it out on here, just in case someone had actually done the swap.

Probably 25 years ago there were available 34" to 38" stepup lugs. I think they were made by M&W Gear. I checked their website and saw nothing regarding wheels. I"ve done several Google searches and found nothing definitive. I did find the attached link to multiple tractor salvage yards. Maybe some of these folks can help you. I'll bet there are a pair of used 38" rims and tires somewhere and possibly some used 34" tires.

Called a few places, and the general consensus is that the hub that mates to a 38" tire will fit right on the 1130. Of course, after making all these phone calls, Dad called and said he may have found some used 34" tires. I'd called every salvage yard in Saskatchewan looking for them, and he lucked onto them during coffee :lol: Now hopefully the guy doesn't want an arm and leg for them.

Let me know what ya have to pay for the 34's Rod. I have 34's on one of mine and will need some shortly. Just curious and how much I am looking at.
 
:lol: My father always comes up with these deals after I've wasted hours looking in the normal spots. $100 for a pair of tires. Apparently they aren't in the best of condition either, but we get our choice 2/4.
