I bought 1 gal. of OJ and 1 gal. of milk last night and it cost $11.00!!!!!! This is getting ridiculous!

At least you can drink it. The 2 gals of diesel for the same cost wouldn;t be palatable

That's the problem, it takes diesel to get that and everything else to it's destination. My F350 (7.3 diesel) has been sitting since Thursday and I don't plan on driving it until Saturday. I refuse to just keep paying, I'm cutting back and keeping my money.

And it finally went up by 2 bucks cwt to the dairyman. Still way below what it sould be. All that 2 bucks was was the 2 bucks they took away last month.

We are the cause though. We are burning our food for energy. How stupid is that?

The root is that we are using matter to make energy. The process of burning matter to make energy will be looked on by future generations as ludicrous. It is much more efficient to just harness the energy that is already out there. It is just hard to sell sunlight.
Just on a side note, future generations will also be mining our landfills.

Just on a side note, future generations will also be mining our landfills.

It is already happening. When they modernized the landfill in Moody, AL they put a material underneath it too keep it from leaching into the ground water. All that packed decomposing garbage from Birmingham produced so much methane that is pumped from the bottom of the stack that Jenkins Brick built a factory in Moody and a five mile pipeline too carry gas from the landfill too the plant to cook the brick. Previously Veolia was just burning the gas out a smokestack.

A friend and I went to a cattle sale last Saturday, and the roads and restaurants where crammed full the entire way between Waco and Tyler... and tons of those big fancy horse trailers being pulled with one ton duallys, and a bunch of youngsters driving big trucks and SUV's.

I don't get it.. it doesn't seem like anyone is affected around here, but how can that be? Unless they are using charge cards to live on. Food is outrageous.. everything from produce to milk and dairy, it's all skyhigh. I wonder how we'll start seeing city folk do anything different? I don't think they realize the impact.

Bull Lady...I see the same thing. I see those kids in those big fine vehicles and I think, "I know your parents.....how can they afford that truck or car for you. I know where they work". Doesn't even take into consideration insurance, tires and fuel. Gotta owe somebody some big money and yes, many are running up big credit card debts.

Yep...it's true. What part of "Evian" (naive spelled backwards) doesn't the yuppie, urban, naive, pseudo-health "conscious" society understand?

They'll pay $5 to $8. a gallon for "designer" water that (in all probability) isn't any better than our own well water that costs about $1. per 1,000 gallons to pump here...we haven't been killed by our water here yet...lol.

The USA economy is the pits and going to $$$$$$$ in a handbasket if "people" and all don't get their act together.

Add to all this scenario:

• 1. Buying houses that they can't afford.
  2. Extensive credit card debt (to supposed "keep the lifestyle").
  3. Eating out too much (ok...these people don't know how to cook; or, their lifestyle is too hectic to cook at home).
  4. Too many non-essential trips (not planning ahead to combine errands).
  5. Paying high prices for a "pack" of cigarettes...don't understand they're cheaper by the carton.
  6. Kids driving expensive, gas guzzling status vehicles to "fit in the crowd".
  7. Wasting money on overpriced "designer" clothing.
  8. Paying double or triple prices for "ready to eat microwave" food.
  9. Taking our "second mortages" to pay for a vacation, or other consumable items.
  10. The list goes on and on...

No...I don't feel sorry for those peoples' nightmare or predicament. It was (supposedly) a conscious choice to gradually get into that fix. Some individuals will learn from their experience...others will never learn or make the connection...

Try they took away $4 last month and this month it will be $6 per cwt. I ask myself who is getting super rich off of us dairy farmers?

Gail, mercy that's a killer. I haven't been keeping up with milk prices the last couple of weeks but had heard they were coming down. And as always it happens just about the time production starts falling off as well. Wonder what kind of lame excuse they are making for the low price of milk now??

Its just the opposite, milk production is on the rise, so milk prices are going down, make sense huh? Same product, higher prices in the stores, gonna put some dairy folks out if prices keep dropping as everything else keeps going up and up.

There was a dairy herd advisor article last week about DFA having to ship milk to indiana form california because the production was to high for the plants in california to handle

Dun thats because they are closing plants so they now claim "surplus" when they can't process all the milk in flush season. overall production hasn't changed all that much its plant capacity that has. Here in new york they have closed enough bottling plants to keep oatka in the powder business they call it -balancing- the market. now lets see you close a plant bottling fluid milk, class 1, higher value and you balance by sending that same milk to a powder, class 4, low value plant but they can't figure out why we complain about the price we receive.
