1 bale to the acre

Got 1 bale to the acre 8 miles North of where we cut 4 to the acre a couple of weeks back.

It is amazing how the rain has been spotty and how much it means to success.

We have gone back to a no rain pattern with none in sight. We'll be feeding hay up there way early if the situation doesn't improve.

I had some hay ready to cut and got army worms in it. Weatherman said a storm was coming so I was afraid I couldn't but for a while. Had the cropduster spray liquid sevin. Woke up yesterday morning and weatherman changed his tune. Said we are back in the drought pattern and not to expect rain this week. Been mowing for two days. If he changes his mind again and we get rain - I'll be happy but I'll also be in a big mess.

Been hauling water for five weeks to one farm, had to clean out another for lack of water/pasture. Got a 3 week reprieve from feeding rolls but had to start again this evening. Already picked out Monday's trailer load.

All in all it could be worse, much worse. The grass might be brown but at least I'm on the top side of it.

We're grazing ours off instead of haying but we probably would have gotten at least 5 bales/acre....small square bales, that is. :(

We are in the brown as well. We got rain at one place almost daily for about 3 weeks and got 4 bales to the acre. We got a little rain at another and got 1 bale to the acre. We can't even cut the other place that got near no rain.

Some places got luckier than others.

OK, that makes sense. We've seen that here. Our son lives in Warner Robins and said it's very dry, so I was surprised to see any one making hay in GA.

But on the positive side. The road hasn't washed any this summer and the mosquitoes are few and far between.

That is tough been there done that. That is the reason I never sell hay just to anal about the next drought. Just finished baling the pasture last week kicked out 300 6x6's that are going in the reserve. Drought of 99 through 01 was tough here a lot of cattlemen didn't make it .

:lol: :lol: :lol: Good for you Mr. Burno. That's a nice little bit of hay to have in reserve- 300 6x6's -no feeling like having plenty of hay. You've talked about your hay equipment before but you must ahve gotten a new baler. Would you mind telling us aboput your new baler please? What kind it is, model #, what those 6 foot wide bales weigh ect. Maybe even a picture please? Thank you Mr. Burno. :D

The 6x6 is not mine but a neighbors that lives in Houston and has his hobby ranch up here. I feed his cows in the winter when he can't make it up. His baler is a Vemeer 605.
I really don't like the 6x6's as they make several of my tractors have the hic-ups when carrying two of them. I haven't weighed a bale so I couldn't say.
My Vermeer is still having problems won't tie the bale and cut the string. My 4x5 is fine just takes forever and a day on the big pasture to bale it. We had a break in the rain (which has started back up) I wanted that pasture cut and baled.

I think Alabama ia all brown on the drought monitor and one bale to the acre would be nice but you can't make hay without rain.
