Mom was getting swamped with calls from strangers. The reason? A medical billing service had launched an 800 number that was identical to hers. When she called to complain, they told her to get a new number. "I've had mine for twenty years," she pleaded. "Couldn't you change yours?" They refused. So Mom said, "Fine. From now on I'm going to tell everyone who calls that their bill is paid in full." The company got a new number the next day.

A few years ago the phone book printed my business number under the FOOD STAMP OFFICE! You don't even want to know how many calls we received. It was a nightmare and the books had already been handed out. On top of that I had to all but take somebody hostage at the phone book office before they gave me a $100.00 per month discount off of my $800.00 a month ad. I thought I should have gotten my ads free that year, but not these big boys.
