Why not buy a few 5 weight heifers and raise them up. As others have suggested buy old bred cows maybe you will get heifers to raise. If she is old odds are she was a good cow might pass on those genetics to the daughter.

Yep. I am thinking on such a small place to do year around grazing you either have to no till plant a winter crop or run less than 10 mommas and sell the calves straight off the bag.

I say for you the best option is calves. Get some good steers and pack the weight on them.

From what I have read in here might I suggest planting oats and running calves. You can plant oats run calves through the winter don’t have to worry about summer droughts and the grass going away. I think you would make more money doing calves on oats than a few mommas.

Sell the steer or eat it and go get a goat, lamb, pig, rabbits or chickens, then next year start with a younger more manageable steer or get one that someone has started.

Hang out with some ranchers pick their brains, go help them on their places, I know here locally our county ag agent put on classes about brush and different stuff some interesting stuff, if you know a large animal vet that would let you shadow him you can learn a lot there.

Like others have said fatten them up and take to slaughter house then fill your freezer and eat like a king. Ribeye and eggs is a darn good breakfast.
