Bottle Calf Idea.... Would like opinions:)

My suggestion would be get a good jersey cow from a dairy that's maybe down a quarter or not quite making production. With milk replacer $80 a bag you could almost buy the cow then when she dries up you can sell her for probably What you gave for her. Only downside to it is a milk cow eats...

    Nurse Cows

I've just weaned 2 holstien bull calves off of a good Jersey cow she did great with them and took them almost immediately. They weighed 232 pounds at 12 or 13 weeks so I thought I did pretty good with them my first time in. My advice for you would be sure you keep the cow fed good as those...

    holstien calves

Quick question should I sell weaning age calves say 2-300 pounds (11 to 12 weeks old,im weaning at 10 weeks) or wait til they get up to 4-500 pounds. I planning on selling at 400 but by the time I feed them to 400 I could come out as good selling early. What do y'all think?

    Disposition?

Thanks guys I can see having a wild cow in the west where they need to chase off predators but living in VA there not really a problem other than the odd coyote. And where im at its mostly small acreage so I will be in closer contact with them than you folks in the west. And if a cow was to get...

    Disposition?

Visited a friends farm yesterday and he has a cow that was plum crazy (high headed y'all know the kind), anyway he said that was his top cow and wouldn't take 5000 bucks for her. I wouldn't have took her if you gave her to me! We got into a discussion about high strung cattle and easy going...
