    Intelligence in Cattle

As far as pasture cows, i've noticed that they are not the smartest. The come runnin when you call "come here girls" because they know that that means food. Now, those show heifers of mine... they always seem to know when I walk in the pen, whether they are gonna be brushed, worked...

OLDEST COW OR BULL YOU EVER HAD

Cow-Hereford. She has to be around 18 years old. She has produced some the top-performing cows in our herd. (most of her calves are 1/2 simmental 1/2 hereford) She also produced several County winning steers and heifers, and a class winner at state fair. This is gonna be her last year for us...

Not to beat a dead horse, but

Ive seen cows try to mount. The cow is usually in heat. I've almost had it happen to me, with one of my show heifers. The one time that I saw it, it was at a show, in the waiting arena.

If I move to the middle of nowhere will it stop????

One of my dogs is three-legged. He does his share of the 'cattle work' just as well as the two 4 legged dogs. We have a cat named "mouse" that is a drop off. I was driving out of the drive way one day when I thought that I saw a dead mouse at the end. Turned out to be a less than 1 week old...

he is a little cutie! You probably are, but it is sweet feed you are giving him, right? A little friend would be great for him.

    Veal calf info needed

Very well said! I actually had an argument with my ag teacher the other day about dehorning. I COULD NOT get him to understand the consept of breeding polled animals and then not having to worry about de-horning. He continued to tell me that horns are just a part of beef (which they are) and it...

The golden arch stake house now serves Angus burgers!

Im soo sick of hearing about 'angus burgers'. IMO, its just a fad. Last summer a local grocery store was selling 100% HEREFORD BEEF, sold like crazy because town people thought that because its 100%, its GOOD, or at least BETTER than some cross out there. Put some who-knows-what-breed feedlot...

    clipping sale cattle

I train, clip and fit as if they were going to a show. Including everything over two years. IMO, if you slick shear them when they have hair, a buyer that wants hairy cattle might back down from the calf. Besides, a lot of people asume that it is a nice calf if the hair hides flaws. I am not...

    twins

We have had two sets of twins. The first was from an old simmental cow. Both were born dead and we lost the cow soon after. The second came from a simmental heifer. Two strong bulls that she raised herself. (thats pretty good if you ask me, a first time mom feeding two bulls) The second cow...

    Is it Possible?

I think donkeys are cute. Untill the neighbors donkey spends all night braying, thats very annoying and I find it very hard to smile. Dont worry, I get the neighbors back at weaning time ;-) ...(I dont own a donkey.)
