Can I give away free beef?

Howdy, With your question, it sounds like your new to this. Talk with your local butcher. They might have someone wanting to buy a 1/2 beef. Whether the butcher is USDA certified or not. The 1/2 purchase is a live on the hoof purchase. The other people tell the butcher how they want it...

    cattle rubs

Howdy, I use cattle rubs here too. I have them around the water troughs. Actually, when I put them out, a lot of cows get stuck under them :) in a good way, because you come back 15 mintues later and they are just gently rubbing back and forth on the rub, and not walking off. Make sure you...

Lots of clover in pasture this year. Is this a good thing?

Howdy, White clover in your field is a good thing. Most folks try to get white clover growing in thier fields. The seed itself can stay dormant in the ground for a long time(they say up to 12 years) Anytime you have a spring pasture which you have cows in, and then move them out, before the...

    Bull tests

Howdy, Fat and a butterball? That does not sound like a gain test. You might want to check with your extension office and talk to the ones which operate your state bull test. Remember that the ultrasound is done, and its not fat. It is genetic expression. Wouldn't you want the herd sire which...

    Mineral feeder and Bull

Howdy, Standard upright mineral feeders are play toys for bull's. The flat, on the ground bull mineral feeders works for my yearling test bulls. The herd has a Dusticator mineral feeder which is to big, and heavy to really be moved much. 150# of mineral in it helps keep it in place too.

    Record keeping

Howdy, At the time, there really wasn't any other software out there we could use. I use AIMS from the American Angus Association. Since they keep me updated to whatever version, it has worked fine. I was using AIMS for almost 3 years before cattlesoft came out. I downloaded it and tried it out...

    Breeding older cows

Howdy, BCS is very important. BCS 5 or 6 is ideal. Make sure they have the full round of vaccinations, and proper boosters. Loose the fat. simply doing gnrH, or gnrH and lutalyse might kick start a heat. And if you wanted to go further, you could go with the full blown gnrH, CID-R, lutalyse...

    why do people register?

Howdy, Registration = like many have said here. geneology of the animal. The sire, grand sire, great grand sire../sire's dam, dam's sire, dam's dam etc.. ;) and so on. If you went to the race track and saw some horse win every race for a year, do you think the offspring would be cheap...

Bull recall by seller for semen use?

Howdy, Bulls can be sold with many conditions. I would rather be impressed that they would want semen interest. If you purchased the bull... what reasons did you buy him? epd's, looks, muscle, fleshy etc... Sold my herd sire myself, and bought new blood. But, before I sold him, I collected. I...
