    Injectable Wormers?

If yall have flukes and replaced Ivomec Plus or Valbazen with Longrange, that might be an issue since Longrange doesn't have a flukicide. We HAVE TO treat flukes twice a year, which makes it difficult to figure out where we would use something like Longrange. Have a bottle that's been sitting...

    Injectable Wormers?

    Yep!

    liquid protein worth the expense?

We feed liquid for the energy much more so than the protein. That's the question I'd be asking; what is the % energy? We keep it out for growing replacement heifers, and pairs right before we put bulls out. Earlier depending on forage and body condition.

    Minerals. Are they needed?

Same here! We've got a barn full of show lambs and goats, so free time has been pretty limited lately! We have a good relationship with the coop we buy all of our feed from...I might make a point to talk to them about it soon and see what they have to say. Most of their feed business...

    Bull calf popping pastern

Does he do it at a slow walk, or only when he gets moving faster? In my experience calves will do it, and most grow out of it as they get older and heavier. If he's still doing it at 8-10 months I'd consider culling. That's one of my biggest pet peeves...you see a LOT of big name AI sires...

    Minerals. Are they needed?

Thanks for reminding me. We are going to have to look into it now that we can't get medicated mineral. :cry2:

    Mix 30 Tubs in Virginia

We had it out pretty much year round. We'd still be feeding it if there were any dealers around that sold it. :( We are stuck with Purina now; best product out there, but expensive enough we have to feed it...strategically.

I guess mineral tubs have a purpose.

One thing that you can do to meet in the middle between slowing consumption of the tub and saving money by making them eat more of the loose is to top dress the tub with loose mineral; couple inches or so. If you check on your cows pretty often it won't be anything to put another scoop in the...

    MultiMin 90

Everything that goes through the chute this fall is going to get it, except calves. We've been using it for several years on various groups, and maybe it's coincidence, but they have all had great breedups; better than usual, AI or NS. When you get good results, it's hard to stop doing...

    Screw worms in FL

I got an email from TAHC today saying that New World screw worms had been found in Key Deer in a preserve in Florida, and to report to your vet or animal health officials if you find ANY evidence of a screw worm infestation. Thought it would be good to spread it around. "The Texas Animal...

    Banding Calves

Depending on the market, you can easily leave $20-50 on the table per head by not castrating. That's a better return than implanting.

Founder, Foot Rot, pinched nerve or something else?

I would have said pinched nerve until I saw the video. All the ones we have that start limping around close to calving are always down in the hind legs, though. Her problem looks like it's everywhere. I hope calving cures her, she's a nice cow! I would definitely say no to footrot...

    Veterinary Feed Directive

Thanks! I'll definitely look into it.

    Veterinary Feed Directive

The way I understand it, all medications meant to be added to drinking water will require a prescription (ie. sulfadimethoxine, etc...), instead of a VFD. I was confused about that until I read up on it a bit more the other day. The only feed we use that will be affected will be our mineral...

    Had to shoot a downer.

Sounds like us, too! A 3 year old second calf heifer. It's rare to lose one like that here. The 13" of rain and swarms of mosquitos don't help.

    Pneumonia 2nd Treatment?

I would get her palpated. Possible she could have a mummified twin in there or something! Especially after all of the antibiotics not really doing the trick.

    Any ideas?

I think there would be more swelling if it was a snake, but I doubt it's serious and chances are it goes away on it's own if it's not bothering him even the least little bit. It would probably be worth putting him in the chute though to get a good look at it. Good thing you saw it BEFORE you...

    Bum Leg Bull

Don't want to be a pessimist, but it might not be a bad idea to start thinking about putting him in the freezer.

What the heck is going on here

Do you know what kind of genetics he's out of?

    What is this

Could be ringworm. Ringworm is a fungus, so the only thing that would really be effective is some type of topical antifungal, or something that will smother it. In cattle, though, it's really not worth treating unless they are show cattle.
