    Pinkeye plan for 2011

We were having a terrible time with pinkeye. We got an autogenous vaccine to help out. This has seemed to help. If you vaccinate for pinkeye IMO you MUST give the booster. Another thing we have done is give a pinkeye shot 4-8 weeks to the cow prior to calving. We hope this is caring some...

    pre-calving vaccine for cows????

I checked this springs pinkeye case and after 8 days the white spot has nearly dissappeared. It only looks like a VERY small irritation in the middle. I think the way to go seems to be getting a specific vaccine for our farm. Hope that doesn't cost too much :? thanks everybody

    pre-calving vaccine for cows????

We use Kent minerals. Haven't ruled out IBR. We do a pretty good job of vaccinating. I have consulted 2 veterinarians and they are both sure that it is pinkeye. Our next step is to get a specific vaccine for our strain of pinkeye. We have a bio-lab close by that can culture the vermen and...

    pre-calving vaccine for cows????

We have ruled out BVD. It is positively pinkeye. there is no real correlations. BCS on all the mommas was good. two of the cows are among our most porductive and raise great calves for us. The treatment we have used is 5ml of LA 200. Excellent response not retreatment is necessary. thanks...

I have had some calves in the last three years that get pinkeye early. two were only days old. The first calf this year was 7 weeks old. We vaccinated the calves this year with pinkeye vaccine at about a week old. Vet saids go ahead...can't hurt. Wasn't sure if it would do any good 'cause...

    Cydectin pour-on

Our vet insists that at least once a year we use Cydectin as a worming product. We worm and fly control 3 times a year and use a generic brand the other two

fly control minerals. Do they work??

So what is the opinion of the learned? do you use fly control minerals - ctc/afc minerals and do you feel they work? We have used them for 3 seasonons religiously and if they are working I would hate to see what my cows would look like with out them 'cause unless we use pour-ons/backrubbers we...

    Winter "pink eye"

We were very concerned with recent outbreak of pinkeye in our herd. We consulted VERY closely with 2 different vets and blood tested one cow. With out a doubt this was pinkeye. The consensus was that because of the weather and feeding corn fodder we have a greater occurance. One of the...

    Pinkeye symptoms in newborn calves

the calf was not from the same cow. we used killed vaccines for the cows This year's calf is responding again to the LA 200. I did see the calf really rubbing his muzzle yesterday but the watering eyes have stopped. My vet was not too concerned with it. He thought it to be some sort of...

    Pinkeye symptoms in newborn calves

The last two springs we have had a calf that shows signs of pinkeye. waterey eye and a small spot appearing. From the symptoms I would think it to be pinkeye. The first calf was only 4 days old and this years was about 2 weeks. I gave them both LA 200 and the response was immediate and...

Heifer found dead on her back

we lost one of our favorite old cows (15 years and 13 calves later) in the ice storm this winter due to exaclty this phenomena. The depression was barely noticeable but with the ice it may have well been a mountain. I look at the spot just the other day with much remorse.

Semen Testing -is it a scam?

We just tested three bulls today. Two were great but one was only soso good enough I guess but I will be able to be straight up with the buyer now rather than later. I can also advise him not to expect this bull to breed a bunch of synchronized cows on the first heat. Our cost is $38 at the...

    Cow with big belly

I had a good cow that also had a huge belly when she was 8. My vet recomended that I ship her. He thought it was an internal hernia that could cause calving problems. Sounded reasonable so I followed his advice.
