    Scour question....

I have a calf that is 6 days old and noticed tonight that she has a white scour. Been told by neighbors that it could be coccideouses, ecoli, or to much milk. The calf is still very alert and is running around, but still worried about that scour. Another question is that the mom appears to...

    Weaned Calves problem

Yes they are Holsteins. I have been giving them plenty of grain for the fact that the bunks are never empty. Called the vet and he has narrowed it down to the two bacterias. Building is always bedded and and the weather is dry not so much humid, but dry. We wean at about 7 to 8 weeks and...

    Weaned Calves problem

I am having a problem with my weaned calves. I will have calves weaned close to 3 to 4 weeks when all of a sudden their body condition goes down hill. It is almost as if they are withering away. Some have scours (no blood), so I was treating them for salmonella and coccidiousis, but I do not...

    Draxine

Went home for christmas break and had trouble with sick calves, mostly due to phemonia. The vets said the best drug they used was draxine that had just came out. It is extremely expensive, but well worth the money. It runs about $3.15 a cc. Gave it to 300 pounders and it looked like a...

    DRYING UP A COW

Do not use predef if she is pregnant. It will cause an instant abortion of the calve inside of her. I would suggest quarter master if you can get her penned-up

Did I do the right thing?

Thank you all for you input and I wil retreat the steer today with just LA 200. He is looking better and I have his temp. at 102.2, so I thik I did not do everything wrong. The reason for the banamine was because of the temp. I know you should not give it if they have stomach problems and he...

Did I do the right thing?

I am not a professional in this subject, but I have seen it and treated it in a couple of my bosses dairy calves. The symptoms are dropping of the ears and a sudden tilt of the head. Many people mess it up with the idea of ear infection. My boss has treated it with LA 200 and pen. with a...

Did I do the right thing?

No brahman. They are holestein angus cross. I like this cross because they still get the size of the holestein and finish out like an angus

Did I do the right thing?

There were no breathing problems that I have noticed. I placed him in a lot by himself. Eats feed and drinks water like a perfectly healthy calf. Like I said it seemed ok, but the dropped ear, so I took his temp. and it was a little high.

    Sick calf.

preston39, The only precaution I can think of is to have knowledge of the drug. To have someone know that it is deadly will add extra precaution to the individual using it. For myself I always keep the cap on the needle and place all animals in chute so there is no expected movement...

    Sick calf.

Becareful with the mycotil. Very helpful to animals, but deadly to humans. 5 ccs of tylan 200 added with 20 cc's of LS50 in the vein will help wonders as well.

    dead cow

How old was the cow and what were the surroundings of the cow? We need more information than just dead and pooped out eyes. Was there any lightning around your area that may have struck a tree the cow was under? How close was she to calving? Maybe the calf was dead inside of her for a while...
