    Sick Calf for beginners

A calf down for 3 days may not recover. I have done this on several occasions. It helps to act quickly. It may not be a true form of grass tetany but the cure is the same. The magnesium in the epson salt brings em around. This may be a regional thing so I'm not recommending this treatment or...

    Sick Calf for beginners

Angie is correct, yes grass tetany. Normally you don't see it in calves. It is more of a problem with cows giving milk to young calves. It is a lack of magnesium in the system. Heavy fertilizing rye with nitrogen can set it off as well. It normally hits the weaker ones. I don't think this one...

    Sick Calf for beginners

Another hint. This is rarely seen in calves. It is mostly seen in lactating cattle with a young calf. I should add the ryegrass was fertilized with lots of nitrogen.

    Sick Calf for beginners

I have a calf that has symptons that a lot of folks will be seeing in the near future. Those of you that know right off what the problem is hold off a couple of days and let folks think about it. I'm doing this mostly for folks that haven't been in the business long. ( Hint ) It's something you...

    Steer with snotty nose

I would take his temp if possible but you can also "see" a temperature. Are eyes cloudy and not interested in anything, ears drooping, back hunched up, head low, is it slow to move, not eating as much. Any one of these and I would expect a fever.

The hide is peeled off at processing, not before going into the ring.

    Problems with injection site.

The knot will peel off with the hide. Some places they will bring more as the buyers can see that they have had some shots.

Is there an effective homeade fence box?

They are the same thing. It refers to the number of times the voltage goes from + to - in the timespan of one second. You will also see it as hertz.

Is there an effective homeade fence box?

Most all voltage in the U.S. is 60 cycle. Even the big 161k lines overhead. The military uses 400 cycle on planes and ships. Most of the U.K. has 50 cycle. just somemore useless trivia.

Is there an effective homeade fence box?

Its not the voltage its the amps. And then the path through your body. In you finger out you elbow, burns but usually don't kill. Even 1 tenth of a amp across your heart can kill.

Helf for cow with chronic cough

cows ain't pets. Pets lay around licking themselves then jump on peoples lap and lick them in the face. cows do lick themselves but the part about them jumping in peoples laps is why they shouldn't be pets. Cows as pets is a recipe for someone getting hurt.

Helf for cow with chronic cough

Dun is correct as usual. You can treat her to death. She ain't gonna make a major turn around, you can prolong it but why waste your money. If you slaughter her now you can get some use out of her. If you pump her full of meds you can very likely loose everthing. Now she is worth freezer beef...

Need Advise on a Tripod Steer

Wow, both Alice and Milkmaid saying cut your loses. I'd say that settles it. Those two have far more patients than most. I'll add my 2 cents as well. "Don't spend a dollar to make a nickle." I'd let it go and see if it gets better on its own. If it don't and goes down. Put it out of "your" misery.
