    What breed am I?

It is definitely possible (probable) for the cow to carry the spotting gene, but this has to all but rule out Upgrade being the sire...I would think. I find it hard to believe he leads Simmental association in registrations and would be a spotting gene carrier, let alone an unknown one. She was...

    What breed am I?

If the straw was mislabeled, will I be able to identify the sire? Or will I just be able to rule out Upgrade?

    What breed am I?

Okay, so could someone help me? What are the steps to getting DNA parentage? What information does the report yield? Thanks for the help! She is a heifer so parentage may be important moving forward.

    What breed am I?

http://ranchers.net/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/16351 Had this calf this morning. A.I'd to NLC Upgrade due April 6. Commercial black cow. What happened??? Straw was mislabeled? Spotting gene in cow? Have had cow for 10 years and always had black calves.

    Sensation vs. Victor 719T calves?

So far have calved 13 heifers this year. 3 719T's One small and vigorous. One easy pull with swelled up nose. One hard pull with a BIG head. Have 3 more 719t bred heifers yet to calve that are on day 285 of gestation (not a good feeling right now). 10 SAV Bismarcks all finished and came...

First calf of season, 10 days old

Yikes, seems a little harsh. While we aren't as far north as Wisconsin, it most certainly gets below zero and the majority of seedstock producers in SD are calving right now. We will be starting commercial heifers in a week. I get it, you calve in May/June but that maybe doesn't fit everyone's...

    genex pregcheck

Is it a "trick" in the dairy industry? They have been using fertility rankings for the last 10 years (atleast) and the major studs i looked at all currently offer fertility rankings on their dairy bulls. (Genex, ABS, Accelerated, and Select Sires)

    genex pregcheck

Yep, I was happy to see Upgrade at 106.....we bred 30 cows to him for this spring. Genex says every number difference indicates a percentage higher in conception. That is an 11% swing between NLC Upgrade at 106 and KG Solution at 95. That makes a difference in my sire choice, personally. Here is...

    genex pregcheck

Just got an email introducing genex's new fertility ranking system. Always heard various sires freeze better than others...would be a great tool if it proves reliable. Here is a link.... http://genex.crinet.com/page6095/PregCheck

What AI bulls are you using this breeding season?

This is our first year using him. We work full time away from the farm so we definitely needed something proven for CE. His BW EPD isn't incredibly low which is a little concern considering heifers will be only about 23 months at calving time.

What AI bulls are you using this breeding season?

Cows Victor 755t (Hereford) NLC Upgrade (Simmental) Heifers SAV Bismark (Angus) Victor 719t (Hereford)

    Top Hereford - AI

We had a few calves that were in the 85-90lb range, just not comfortable using him on heifers. Better CE bulls out there IMO. Ha that picture was taken about the time the grass was getting dry and hard and the corn was still nice and green. Usually don't have any trouble unless pasture runs...

    Top Hereford - AI

Bred cows last year to Victor 755t (Accelerated), a 3/4 brother to 719t. I wouldn't use him on heifers but the steers we have are competing with a proven performance A.I. simmental sire. Heifers are supposedly his strength, and the few we have look good. We bred more to him this summer. Here...

    Hereford AI bulls

Dun, We have had a limited number of calves out of On-Target 22s, I think 8 to be exact, so it's impossible to provide an accurate assessment of the sire. BUT, on our commercial Angus/Simmental cows, he provided above average growth at weaning and they have continued to grow well in the...

    MARC Trends

I was under the impression they used breed EPD averages and used the across-breed EPD comparisons. For what its worth.....I've never been a big fan of the across breed epds.

    MARC Trends

Interesting read... http://www.sustainablegenetics.com/pdf/ ... _track.pdf The Angus advertisement says that packers want cattle that weigh 1000-1200 lb animals and grade choice. Is that the weight packers are still looking for in fat cattle?

Hard Worker for you guys Just needed a Good laugh

This is my favorite part... "This bidding is for one shipment of 10 straws. This is enough to service 5 females 2x each. Individual success rates will dictate how many pregnancies you will actually end up with. A higher sucess rate would result in more pregnancies."

    Foresight and Final Product

The Final Product progeny I saw sold at a bull sale last year did not impress me....disposition was definitely not a strong point. (I am very surprised to find his DOC rating at 16 with good accuracy)

    A.I. Performance Pedigree

I was sifting through various breed registrations online and found that the American Hereford Association (AHA) website offers a link that gives a detailed progeny report of individual animals. I think it is an awesome tool. For those unsure what I am talking about, here is a link to a...
