    Belgian blue cattle

That’s why Belgian blue bulls are slowly becoming popular with commercial cattlemen with horned cattle (longhorns and Corrientes)….added more pounds to the calves.

    Belgian blue cattle

Right! BB crosses do well in feedlots and graded choice in most cases. The kill buyers went nuts every time a double muscled slaughter cow/bull ran thru the ring and bid on them. It’s true that straight Belgian blue feeders lacked the marbling, but they hold an advantage over other breeds is...

    Some Hereford sired heifer’s calves

That horned calf is surely extra fuzzy.

    Hereford who is black

Well Elkwc and Wilson are both correct. I think the location play it's role regarding the CHB. Obviously not all grocery stores carrying it but I know Cub Foods uses to carrying CHB few years ago. Not sure why it was discontinued. But I seen Angus beef literally everywhere... Hereford feeders do...

    Hereford who is black

Sad thing is that CHB never expanding their business around the United States. We have no CHB buyers or any feedlots for CHB or holding the Hereford sales. That's why they're falling behind. I've seen different brands of Angus beef at various stores but never a CHB brand.

And you just thought our homegrown bulls were ugly

Yup. I knew a local breeder that should had planned ahead of him, instead of toss a wagyu bull out in his commercial herd and wondering why he gets less money for his wagyu X calves at the local sale barn. Wagyu isn't something that you can make a profit at your average sale barn..

    Hereford who is black

Black hide sells good 🤷‍♂️ thanks to the AAA marketing. I've never heard of straight Hereford steers or straight Charolais steers topping the sales around here. It sucks because I am very fond of the Hereford breed. Both breeds are on decline localized due to the recent years of heavy dockage.

    Why Holstien Jersey Cross?

Black hided dairy bull calves bringing more money than spotted or jersey calves from what I've seen in several local sale barns. Some of these hojo calves went to the ranches as a grafted calf.

    what breed is this

Looks like guernsey mix to me. Could be yellow fleckvieh cross as well.

    Do Murray Grey produces rattails

If these breeds carrying a dilutor gene, then how come there isn't a single rattail calf out of galloways, highlands, longhorns, Dexters and Murray greys? I read few articles that there are different dilutor genes. As for the Murray grey origin, honestly I don't think it was a white shorthorn...

    Do Murray Grey produces rattails

I had a guy telling me that Murray greys will produce more rattails than Charolais. But I never heard of anyone gotten a rattail out of a murray grey considering they have different genes from Charolais and Simmentals.

    Simmental vs Hereford Bull

Why do the char cross calves often get docked in some areas? 🤔

    Raising your own bulls

😂😂 Then visiting different plants and see how many Holsteins in the kill pens and get certified as a CAB. It happens A LOT. Too bad you're too busy with raising your mighty cows.

    Raising your own bulls

There are polled Holsteins but just like other new polled breeds, they have flaws and not good as the horned breed. Also you could be surprised that Holsteins can be qualified for CAB, despite of no dairy animals allowed in the CAB program.

    Raising your own bulls

I got two almost solid red calves out of the Hereford bulls last spring. Just a little white dime sized spot on the forehead.

    Raising your own bulls

A good percentage of black Herefords that isn't homozygous for white face gene. It wasn't that uncommon of several black Herefords producing full solid calves.

    Simmental vs Hereford Bull

Yup, these reds and oddballs ended up in the same feedlots with the blacks 🤷‍♂️

    Simmental vs Hereford Bull

Somehow I don't believe that most buyers can tell the difference between a black Angus and a black Simmental and other black hided breeds unless done by DNA testing. There are over 18 breeds that's gone black in United States and many breeds continue jumping into Angus black hide wagon....that's...

    Simmental vs Hereford Bull

I've heard that white face gene from Simmental are different from the w/f gene from Hereford. Apparently sim w/f gene didn't got passed on to the offspring every time.
