    Best Terminal Breed

I’ll be the oddball and vote Piedmontese mostly because I’m partial as that’s what we run on Red Angus. Although most now are crossbred cows, so I’ll argue the not retaining heifers mindset as well but only to the point that yes, too much Pied influence doesn’t make a good cow. I’ve never seen...

    Tragedy

We have an older metal hay feeder that has a couple bent up sections from being moved around with the loader over the years. Had a yearling heifer with her head stuck in it last winter. Found her after dark when I took hay out. Of course it was one of the coldest and windy nights we had, and...

    Tragedy

Had a heifer do the same thing in a hole in the side of a hollow maple tree. No idea how long she was there but it must have been awhile because she was knocking on deaths door by the looks of it. Found just in time and she ended up being ok. Sorry it wasn’t a good outcome for the OP. They...

    A Happy Rewarding Phone Call

That's definitely a good feeling. I sent two steers to the butcher shop for ourselves and family members. They called a couple hours after the neighbor dropped them off asking if I had any extras to sell. Told him I had two left and had some people that were interested but nothing was...

Largest Terminal bull breed with good marbling ability.

Pied over Angus marbles just fine for me if you feed them right.

    bulls

Same here. I'll never forget when I was younger a city slicker type asked my grandfather what kind of cows they were out in the field. He responded that they were mostly Red Angus. The guy asked what was so special or different about them than Black Angus. He replied "Because they...

Question about breeds and beef quality

I know different breeds can certainly produce different types or quality of meat, but I'm convinced the feeding program is just as if not more influential to the end product regardless of breed.

So will this be considered GMO beef???

    Wild Thing ?

Our Red Angus/Piedmontese breeding throws a set of stripes every now and then. Our most brindled cow in the herd got a one way truck ride though when she failed to produce last year. Have a steer this year that my girlfriend calls "Zeb" because of his zebra like stripes and light coloring...

    Around 5 year old Piedmontese.

    Piedmontese cross heifer

As far as feedlot diet goes I haven't seen any need for anything different. We have always fed a commercial mix for steers from the local feed mill and I'm not 100% sure exactly what is in it, I know we have had them add extra steamed flakes of corn before especially near the end of finishing...

    Piedmontese cross heifer

We started with purebred Red Angus and have been breeding to Piedmontese bulls for years. Most of the cow herd now is comprised almost entirely of retained crossbred replacements, and some of which are 3/4 Piedmont if not a few that are more. I pulled 1 calf this year out of 33. Only real...
