    Lead animal selection and training

So let me understand... You just look for the cow that all the other ones follow and this is your leader or is there anything you can do to make a cow a leader? Also, why is it that I always hear about a lead steer? Are cows naturally inclined to follow a steer? Thanks, Andrew

    Lead animal selection and training

I have a question: when you say "hold her there" you mean to restrain her such as in a small loading pen or just entertain her with feed until the other ones come in? Andrew

    Angus/Charolais X

Wow!!! I'm glad I asked. Black/Baldie is important in this area as those calves bring more at the sale. I've had a few white calves and they got docked bad. Thanks a lot, Andrew

    Angus/Charolais X

I'm not asking for a herd analysis. I just want to know the phenotype of the cross. That's all. I would assume they'd be black since black and polled are dominant genes. I just want to see if anyone has that type of cross and what the calves look like as far as color. I'll try and put it a...

    Angus/Charolais X

Hello, I am thinking about disposing of my commercial herd (older cows) and getting some charolais F1's and retain my 3yr old Brangus bull. My doubt is: what would this cross look like? I assume they'd be black and I hope the would be muscular. I also have the option of getting angus influenced...

    Grazing brush

If you just want cattle to eat brush you may try the corrientes. I've one seen a few but the ones I saw were eating just about anything. However, they don't look like beef cattle to me. Besides they are really ugly and scrawny. I also recently read an article on Beef Mag that said you can train...

    Most Tame Breed

The cow in Pic #1 is supposed to be a brahma cross but that's all I know. The guy that sold it to me said she was bred to an Angus bull. However, her calf is all red. I guess it must have been a red Angus. Also, that cow has her ears cut. It seems to me that she had much longer ears but it looks...

    Most Tame Breed

Thanks for the feedback. I got six hereford and hereford crosses so I think I'll use those to begin my permanent herd and sell the rest. They also seem to have the better body composition; at least in my herd. Thanks again. Andrew

    Most Tame Breed

Hello, I'm new to cattle and would like to know if anyone has any opinion as to what the most tame breed would be from the list below: Angus Brahma Brangus Hereford Beefmaster Charolais The reason I ask is because I have at least one of the above cows. When I started out about a year ago I...
