    Embryo options

Agree with T&B. If you're having to buy embryos, prep the receps, and then pay the embryologist, you're going to have a chunk tied up before the first calf is born. Then, depending on the embryologist and how good he is, you may have a 75% birth rate. I'd seriously look into a good bull...

    Flushing protocol ?

I would suggest that you contact the embryologist that you will be using so he/she can provide you with the protocol for this procedure. Also, are you proficient at AI or will you have someone to do that for you also?

    Cowboy Up,fixing an udder?

Looking at his pedigree, CW, Marb, and RE, Cowboy Up is lagging, in our opinion, in these areas. We like to see higher percentages in these areas in the 20%. But we also look at maternal aspects and production aspects when matching up to our female. Compare to SydGen Enhance and you'll see...

    Cowboy Up,fixing an udder?

From our operation and what we look for, I'm not too impressed with Cowboy Up. However, I will say that is a fine looking calf.

    Prostaglandin after ET

I think I would be finding an embryologist who was more familiar with cattle and didn't have to ask that question.

72 hours and no heat at all

From our experience, heifers are extremely aggravating. We have since given up on AI'ing heifers since you never know when or if they will come into heat to be AI'd.

    New to AI

I agree. Also, we've struggled trying to get heifers to come in heat to AI. We've decided going forward to let heifers run with out low BW bull and AI cows that have calved at least once naturally.

    DIY or hire a pro?

A lot of good advice here. I took the course a year ago - three days @ $400.00. Bought a tank and all supplies after the course for $1,000.00. Then comes the semen and other supplies needed like heat detection patches, med's needed, CIDR's,etc. Yearly cost of keeping tank filled is about...

    New to AI

For a few years, we had a friend of ours that lived a few miles away that AI'd for us. We would put in the CIDR's, give all shots and watch for when they would come in heat. Friend would either come out or we would take the cow to his farm when they would be ready to breed. We would order...

    Cdir or no Cidr?

Just curious on how you came up with the hours you determined to AI? Even if they show no signs of heat you still AI to these hours?
  13. K

    Cdir or no Cidr?

We use 7 days on heifers and cows.

    Cdir or no Cidr?

Just curious, what is your percentage of bred cows with this method?

    AI today???

Sorry for the confusion, just got ahead of myself. Yes, he went with what you said, lute was given after CIDR's were pulled. He finally gave up on the AI and has placed heifers with bull. Heifers were all good body frame and healthy - at least appeared to be. I tried to get him to give...

    AI today???

I saw no signs. He also used the heat patch on the tail head that shows bright orange after they have been rode. Didn't look to me like they had been rode. Just seemed odd that out of the group, you would have noticed a couple of them riding the ones in heat.

    AI today???

Gotcha - thanks for the explanation. Just never seen or heard anything like this from a whole group.

    AI today???

Neighbor of mine went through a group of heifers to sync for AI (CIDR's, lute) on and no signs of heat. After 7 days, he gave them another shot of lute and still no signs of heat. He's thinking he may have something going on with water, feed, etc. that could be preventing heat?? Not sure what...

    EPD's are BS

I've a neigbor who is big time in registered black angus. He bought a high dollar bull from out west a couple of years ago - EPD's were out of the roof for being so good. Long story short, now this bull's epd is no longer top in the bull market. And, most of his herd now is much lower in epd...
