    Rain!

In this area of northern Ontario it has been the wettest summer on record. Today however rain was the least of everyone's concerns. It is possible a tornado went through. It will be a couple of days before all is confirmed. My yard was a mess afterwards of tree branches and small trees down. The...

    The Moose are Moving In

I'm from northern Ontario where moose are plentiful. They are magnificient creatures but bothersome and dangerous on our highways--have seen several dead this spring and summer so far. The mosquitoes and black flies become so bad they literally drive them out of the woods into the open and onto...

I too would be mighty thankful for that warning!!! Hopefully by next Spring I will have chickens, but now that I know snakes may be part of the picture, perhaps I'll get someone else to gather eggs!!! :(

    Visitor

There are deer visiting me quite often--sadly they like my garden best!!! But would I shoot Bambi--not on your life!!!! :) It's the black bears which scare me the most. The other day I saw bear scat between the barn and garden. :o If I go down to the lake I sing loudly!!! It would scare...

    Where I'm coming from....

Larry: Speaking from a woman's point of view--if us gals were jailed for anything which doesn't measure up to a man's standards or ideals--can you just imagine the hell to pay when we got out!!!!! :D

    Where I'm coming from....

These are a few which apparently are still in the law books here in Canada!: In Calgary, Alberta businesses within city limits are required to provide rails for tying up horses. :cowboy: It is illegal to pretend to be king. Hmmm--I wonder does that include one's own personal "throne" in the...

    Usernames ?

Mine is pretty straight forward--I am barefoot most of the time, and a girl, soooo----- :) Plus my grandfather's nickname for me was "wee barefoot girl" so it sort of stuck with me all these years. I just like the feel of wet grass in the morning, and the warm earth. Even stood outside...

    raising a pig to butcher

Raising pigs was a blast when we had them! We lucked out with feed--there was a restaurant not far from where we lived who give us their leftover breads, rolls, veggie scraps etc. which was added to their feed. One thing we did which may seem a bit strange, but worked, was we threw in an old...

    Free Cows

Sorry to be misleading with the subject--no free cows as in giveaway-free as in getting loose from a truck on a major highway (southern Ontario, Canada) during the rush hour commute to work. Can you imagine the look on everyone's face waking up in a city to find a cow or two standing on their...

    Favorite place?

My favourite place to be is in the backyard on a quiet summer's eve, sitting on the lounge swing, listening to the frogs croak, and the cricketts chirp while the sun goes down looking over the lake. Very peaceful and good for the soul!
