    Animal Protein for Pigs?

The stories about guys having a heart attack in the pig pen and being basically gone by the time they find them are real. Didn't the mob have interest in a hog farm north of Las Vegas?

They are hogs, they'll crush the bones. No sense in going through the extra work.

Any hair sheep folks on this site?

We have dorpers and dorper crosses. Have some katahdin blood, however they lack power and growth and the fertility isn't over the top. We have started crossing with a romanov ram and really like what we are seeing so far out of those, lots of vigor from birth, low death loss and will improve...

    Feeder Futures vs Cash

There is no good way to lock in the basis on feeder cattle. I've always thought that if I could figure out how to create an exchange that it may serve some value to both parties to have some of that locked in. The packer will set a basis in the deferred months so that a feedlot can lock in a...

    Pack Rats

With the amount of coons that around there plus us trying to build the quail numbers I don't see cats working real well. I am going to go to the farm store this week and load up on rat bait. Keep enough out maybe I can get them killed off.

    Pack Rats

How in the world do you get these things gone from a farm? Think we get them cleaned up and they are back in everything again the next year. Cats arent' an option as the place is 15 miles from the home place.

what do you consider the most dangerous

I am far more scared of a horse than I am of the rankest bovine in the world. Been around enough dairy bulls, bucking bulls, mad mommas and crazy yearlings that I quite confident in my ability to stay out of danger. Dam horse can flip a switch at any moment and put me in the hospital. About...

Lack of knowledge of local gov.

Kansas is a free range state so technically if somebody hits your cow they owe you a cow. Our roads are all Township roads, the main roads would classify as minimum maintenance most places, the rains have been rough on them but if we want them passable in any sort of timely manner it will be us...

    terrace work ( AGAIN)

Depending on how the water laws work in your state it is their right to allow the water natural course if your ground is lower than theirs. I would say you are better off talking with them and figuring out how to route the water the through a tile line that discharges it in an appropriate manner.

    Automation taking jobs.............

Most of the new high speed lines are all concrete ties. Only thing that gets wood ties back is when they have to replace rotten ones. It is truly amazing watching that piece of equipment work. Even more amazing how incredibly expensive it is to put in that rail.
