    Survey Question

You are right about that. I quit for nearly a year one time, and never did lose the craving. My doctor said that a tobacco addiction is harder to break than a heroine addiction. Brad

    Survey Question

I started dipping Copenhagen when I was 13. A can per day. Wish my dad had kicked my ass for starting it. He chews and started when he was 10, so he said he'd have been a hypocrite for not letting me try it. Got sick on a dip a week or so ago, after dipping for over 20 years. Smelled just...

    Where to move to.....

If you check out AL, check out south AL, more specifically SW AL. Lands too high in the north half. Too many folks too. Land in NE AL runs 2-5K per acre, much more of the 5K than 2K. South and SW you can find large tracts of rough ground for 500 per acre, good land for 1500. Run a cow per...

    Happy belated birthday Jake!

    Finally

    Ah, I see. Thanks.

    Finally

Looks good Jake. When I clicked on "about us" it took me to "200 series." Might be showing my ignorance, but what does 100, 200, 300, 400 series mean?

    Buying Hay

We have fertilized, barn stored 4x5 Tifton 44 hay, plenty good enough for horse hay, and sell it for $20 a roll. Most folks around here will feed $10-15 a roll, half rotted junk or let their cows starve before buying good hay. We don't bale for the public, but folks around here charge...

    Moving

I don't know what's holding them up on leaving, but I wish they would go. I get sick of the homo hollywood folks trying to push their corrupt moral-less opinions on the rest of us.

    Breed of dog

Maybe not a suggestion since you already said you had one, but Labs are just darn hard to beat. Especially with kids. Very gentle, loving and protective if provoked. Another Lab would be a good choice in my opinion. Living in the south, I would stay away from anything long haired. Too many...

    Heifer birth weight

I agree with that 100%. I like the little calves too. I haven't pulled a calf in the last 15 years, and I don't intend to start again now.

    Heifer birth weight

Thanks dun, The cow that had the large heifer calf went from feet sticking out, to licking the calf in about 3 minutes. I would guess that info would also be of benefit in keeping replacement heifers. She should inherit her mothers hips. That's the way it works in, oh never mind.

    Heifer birth weight

Thanks for the responses. I kinda figured that was the way it worked too, but thought I'd ask. I couldn't see why the bulls birth weight would matter, and the heifer/cows birth weight wouldn't.

    Heifer birth weight

Have 12 calves as of now. All are black baldy's. Very nice calves. Nine of them are heifers. One of them is a monster. I haven't weighed a calf in several years, but use to weigh a bunch of them. I would estimate the heifer's weight at 110 lbs. Momma didn't have any trouble spitting her...

    Heifer birth weight

What role does the birthweight of a heifer calf play into keeping her as a replacement? Does it work the same as selecting a bull with a low birth weight?

    Grass

The two most common here are Bermuda and Fescue. All the fescue is hot. Common bermuda grows pretty much as a wild grass, and it's hard to kill out before sprigging a hybrid. Many folks use a fescue, bermuda mix. Not much clover around. We are all bermuda. Coastal, Tif 44 and Russell. I...

At least 3rd on cattle. At least sixth just farming in general.

Seeking advice on concrete trough repair

Going out on a limb with this one, but you might try some Bentonite clay. It is used to seal leaky ponds, or tanks as some of you folks would call them. Wouldn't cost much to try.
