    ced ?

Those EPDs won't mean much if the heifers don't have large enough pelvic scores to have a calf safely. It's $2 a head here to have the vet check them, those that aren't large enough go to salebarn. Blessings Valerie

Hope your cow is ok. Our 13 year old cow died and due to calf, doc said I had four minutes to cut her open, find the calf and get it out to save it.... too late beautiful bull calf died. I now know where to cut, praying I NEVER have to do that again!!! Blessings Valerie

Using GenChoice 90 sexed semen ?

Actually , our AI Technician has been doing AI for over 30 years - raised on a dairy farm. We only had 2 Jersey heifers and one out of the three took. We discovered the unknown need for the smaller AI tube when he was there to AI. Fortunately for us, the girls were late coming in heat (also...

Using GenChoice 90 sexed semen ?

ABS rep - works at a vet clinic and it was Jersey semen, maybe that was the problem - Jersey semen. LOL We just figured that Angus would be the same way. $60 straw is still pretty expensive. Blessings Valerie

    Gestation records

Our longest was 21 days late and was verified to AI sire. I would have guessed the herd bull, good thing we had the test. Blessings Valerie

Using GenChoice 90 sexed semen ?

I was told by AI rep that sexed semen had a 10% settle rate and we had to use 2 straws at a time... plus, we had to buy a special AI instrument because the straws are much smaller than regular semen... NEVER AGAIN!! Hope you are more successful. Blessings Valerie

    yearling stealing milk?

We had 1 heifer yearling do that. We re-weaned her lol. We actually put her in with some newly weaned calves and that seems to have broke her of the bad habit... at least we have not caught her at it again. Blessings Valerie

    Calves coming early

We had one bull calf born way too early and unable to stand on front feet. We were unable to save him. The rest of the female have been receiving xtra feed and molasses tubs hoping to overcome the problem. So far, 9 calves alive and OK . #9 born this morning and very tiny but seems pretty...

    TWINS - info on Freemartins

We've had 2. One was not discovered until Doc tried to place a CIDR... it would not fit, evidently the cow had lost the bull fetus sometime during gestation. The other had heat cycles and doc just called her free-martin...I've always wondered about that one. Valerie
