Cows Udder too big calf can't nurse

You seem to give this advice often. Everyone has a cow that may be behind the rest. No matter how good your herd is there is always that one that could be culled out. I don't believe telling this person to sell everything and start over is the best advice. I agree, I would cull her out and...

Does anybody else get psyched about calving time?

I love it when it's close to calving time! My cows are supposed to start calving today, so I'm really nervous but excited. I've got three heifers so I'm mostly just nervous because of that. I will be a lot calmer once I get one calf on the ground. Kind of like that first snap during football...

I click the one that say IMG i think. Then just come here and click paste. Usually works pretty well...

    Heifer in calf

I bought the one I had in October, put a bull with her in April, and ended up having a calf in June. Pretty unexpected.

Went through the same problems at the first of June. The stress level for me was crazy! Lol I had to pull mine too, but they are both doing fine now. Good luck!

To buy a bull or not to buy?

It isn't easy or convenient, but why would you not make it easier or more convenient when you had the chance?

To buy a bull or not to buy?

I've got three heifers, a cow, a bull calf, and a yearling bull. The only reason I have that bull is because my neighbor had him cheap and I bought him this spring to sale in the fall. I leased a bull this year because by the time I payed the A.I guy synchronized my heifers and went through the...

    Pregnant heifer? Need some help

They are doing fine now. It just took her a day or two to catch on. I went out there today and he ran up to me butted my leg and ran off. Mama didn't like that too well but I'll just have to watch her.

    Pregnant heifer? Need some help

That half of the lot is usually part of the yard it joins in with a lot that is chest high in fescue and red clover. On the other 20 acres there's enough grass to last all 5 of the others until next spring. I'm not going to leave them for that long, but I could.

    Pregnant heifer? Need some help

He was a big calf for her. Keep in mind I took the bull off of them wanting them to calve 9 months from now but instead she bagged up and had a calf lol.

    Pregnant heifer? Need some help

Here are some pics of them. I'm thinking she was bred to a charolais or a red angus. Either way I think he's a good calf.

    Pregnant heifer? Need some help

I've got a pretty good feed I usually feed. It's a 13% protein with a little molasses. Seems to do the trick.

    Pregnant heifer? Need some help

I've got them penned up in a barn for tonight to make sure she claims him well. I will keep her in the half acre lot for a day or two. Why would you feed her grain for a while? and how longs a while?

    Pregnant heifer? Need some help

I don't have any new pics, however I have some pretty big news. She dropped her mucus plug about an hour ago. I noticed she was getting a little slimy this morning and when I got there she was way off by herself. I decided I would bring them all up to the front pasture so that I could watch her...

    Pregnant heifer? Need some help

Just another update the heifer has made a complete udder from Saturday to today. She is really....uhh "relaxed" :D , and was acting a little funny so I put her in a lot by herself. Maybe she will calve soon so I can turn her back with the rest. The other field has way too many hiding...
