    cull cows

I sold 33 last month, about half pregnant and most needed dentures. I averaged .37 per pound. I first felt the same way but then if you figure in the cost of feed to keep and no babies and morality of those old cows it wasn’t so bad. Also, not sold at sale barn so I saved some more on yardage...

    Impending Birth but how impending

OK, I know everyone has their opinion except for the cow. Have a heifer that appears to be getting close, but how close do you think? I have been out of town for a few days and the wife has been checking things. When I got to check yesterday, the heifer's tailbone was starting to point up and...

Calf not eating as normal...opinions requested

I cut her back a bit and she is wide open again. Either the suggestions worked or she healed herself. Still eating a bottle and half each morning and each evening and beginning to eat some dry feed. The 2 bottle per day are the suggested rates from the bag directions. I am adding a little extra...

Calf not eating as normal...opinions requested

Still have a little bit of grass (something greenish anyway) so no hay. Dry feed has been there for older calf and she kinda of plays with it but not observed her eating it as yet. Did another feeding of re-sorb yesterday and she sucked that down along with about a qt of milk. Have not gave...

Calf not eating as normal...opinions requested

Attitude is good. Other than not eating normally you would not think anything is wrong. I feed re-sorb this morning and she drank the whole bottle and 1/2 bottle of milk and then she stopped. Not quite as aggressive eating but still pretty good.

Calf not eating as normal...opinions requested

Tonight she drank about 1 qt. Should we give her the rest of the dosage or wait and give another complete dose? Her stool is a little runny but not bad or not scouring. It has little clumps of something in it (resembles a hair ball) the yellow look appears normal for bottle milk.

Calf not eating as normal...opinions requested

Have a 3 week old bottle baby. Mom would not take her and we got some colostrum (2 qts) in her at about 16 hrs old..Been doing wonderful until Friday evening. She only drank 1 qt of milk. We were concerned that she might be getting sick so we gave her 3 ml of LA200. Saturday morning she drank 3...

    Week old calf

She seems to be eating fine. RE: The selinium. It is a mineral suppliment that was reccomended by feed store and is a horse product primarily. The dosage is about 1/4 scoop per 1/2 gal. I have gave her LA 200 on Tueday as a precaution. She is actually doing quite well for being pulled with a...

    Week old calf

He probably was dehydraded since she had not had anything for several hours. Have not been able to get vet prescribed Bose. They say we do NOT have a selimum problem in our area. I do have some powdered selinium that I can mix with the milk replacer.

    Week old calf

Opinions needed. Had to pull a calf on a first calf heifer Saturday evening. Thought all was fine as it was dark when we got done. Momma cleaned him up well and next morning we noticed that she was kicking calf when she tried to suck. Got colostrum and feed it to her and then gave her...

    Sick calf? or something

We have a calf born we believe in the last 24 hours. We found it this afternoon appearing very weak and seemed to be walking on his "toes". The mother is staying with him and attentive but we don't believe he's been nursing. His eyes are very bloodshot too. We have another calf that we're bottle...

    3 day old calf

The directions for the second feeding of the electrolotes called for mixing it with the milk replacer.. I am thinking that I will do it this way ...more as a suppliment than a complete treatment which called ONLY for electrolites

    3 day old calf

Her bag is very tiny and I can not see any milk when he tries to suck. This is her second calf. The first one died, the vet said he didn't have an insinct to suck. This will be her last calf on my property, as soon as she picks up a little of her weight back she is in the trailer. After I put...

    3 day old calf

Have a three day old calf from mother with very little if any milk. We think he may have received some milk but not enought to live on. Based on his stool (yellowish color) my mother (she is better at this than I am) thinks he got some of the colostrum from the mother and possibly some milk...
