    AI cost?

@ LRTX1: Sounds fair. Questions... Where is the tech coming from? Do you have a lot of cows? Are they usually making 2 trips to get the cows settled (1 for cidrs and one for AIing)? Can you PM me their name/#? Thanks!

    AI cost?

Yeah, would like the info... the course I saw was pretty dern pricey, believe it was done through ABS and was offered in Okeechobee. Too bad its not as easy as AIing pigs! gimme a straw and a pouch and I can make a shyt ton of piglets! I'd probably hire the service out though (even if I knew...

    AI cost?

probably I'd buy the semen, b/c it would be beefmaster, which is not carried by most of the big companies.

    AI cost?

In the southeast (FL specifically), what do you think the "going rate" is for AI (per cow) when the total # of cows is 7-10 head? ...The whole run (synch, etc)

    Weaning Nose Flap thingys

never seen a weaning ring small enough to put in a sheep's nose. Spray your vines with a hot pepper solution, or check out the repellant spray made to keep deer away. I have a dog that liked to chew the legs of the kitchen table, made a solution using scotch bonnet peppers and rubbing alcohol...

    Picking a Bull??

If I was gonna produce F1s tigers I'd go with a good set of brahman cows and breed them to Herf bull. They'll take the heavier calf better than a herf cow would. also, you could change it up and do F1 brangus next year. just my 2 cents.

    Calf coloration

Thanks. this cow is a little brickhouse (LHX), no hatchet butt. I'll try to get pics of her this weekend. the feat will be figuring out how to post them on here. will keep breeding her to angus and retaining these salt and pepper heifers- as long as they work like momma.

    Calf coloration

Got one LH type cow (mostly white w/lots of tiny red spots), bred to reg BA, first calf, heifer, came out white/black spotted- basically same pattern as momma, only spots are black. while I think the color is rather neat, I wouldn't be thinkin it was so neat if it were a bull calf and cost me...

    Sexed Beef semen

There is plenty of gender selected beef semen out there, Genex, Select Sires, etc. I think Genex is the most economical though.

Do 1st calf heifers get better with 2nd calf?

Do 1st calf heifers get better with 2nd calf?

I have a first calf heifer (RAx) that just had a super nice heifer calf. Mothering instinct is fine, however she doesn't seem to be producing very much milk. Bag is barely there and calf is hungry all the time. Calf was really dragging her condition down so we started giving some feed to momma...

    sheath design

Thanks Knersie, you confirmed what I've always just assumed to be good. I've seen some pretty much straight downward angles out there!

    sheath design

Right, a bull can have a lazy prepuce regardless of sheath conformation. I also understand that tighter/cleaner is typically better. However, I wondered if there is anything more to it than that, especially since many BR influenced breeds aren't going to have a very tight sheath. Is there...

    sheath design

Can someone educate me on correct sheath design? I assume one that reduces the chances of the bull stepping on his dick with his backlegs when hes on the prowl is better. Can anyone offer any explanation/details? For example: A real different sheath design can be seen between the santa...

When do I begin breeding my angus

My thought, do the herf but wait til 15 mo. I have a small (est. ~900#) RAx heifer thats been together with lbw reg BA bull since she was weanling. Must have gotten bred at 12 mo. b/c she just gave birth to her first calf, big nice thick calf... thought it was a bull calf based on...

    Bull Choice ??

Balancer isn't a bad pick but look for some 50/50 Simangus Bulls... reason being, you'll get a bit of h.vigor on both crosses and still be maternal all the way.

    Inbreeding Question

Disclaimer: Everyone knows producing 3/4 inbred daughters is not ideal, but they're just a product of convenience in a small "backyard" herd. That being said, do you guys think that it would be ok to retain these 3/4 inbred heifers? ...as long as they're not bred back again to the same sire...
