Had a calf the other day with an open gut, born that way. Lucky to catch right away. Vet sewed back up but wasn't real optimistic. Anybody any experience w this? Still alive 36 hours later, but still not out of woods for sure. Just curious if anybody has saved one when born this way. Thanks!

Seems like extreme anything can be bad, but, that seems to be what the seedstock goes for. Nothing against seedstock guys producing what sells, but it's getting harder and harder to find something not on the extremes.

I'm sure this has been discussed here before... w a lot of purebred breeders starting to say there is no need to buy anything but a calve ease bull bc even the calves ease bulls have the growth as the low calve easers. Question is, are you still giving something up in hip shape or size...

We have 2 different 3 month calving seasons... I wonder how you handle vaccinations and other calf working when they can vary so much in age. Doing 2 large groups instead of several small groups seems like a nightmare. Am I missing something? Maybe the plan is no vaccinations or castration...

Seems to me that that is the nature of calving heifers. There will be problems, you can only hope to be there to help. I get it, had some of same issues w job. If she had the calf, she is better prepared for not year and would likely be s better bet than replacing her w another heifer. 80...

How long do you wait to put your clean up bull in after AI breeding?

What number of days is your rule of thumb to either breed an animal AI or not? Does the average animal need 40,50,60 days to heal and ready to rebreed? Don't want to waste time and dollars on animals that are too close to having calved.

Nobody can get 100% of their calves to weaning due to calving issues, sickness, or other problems. What is your goal as a producer in terms of % loss? Just curious, I have my own number, but curious where I stand w that expectation. Thanks
