    Bull not doing his job?

That's good. I will put notes in my phone on who I see the bull shadowing or chasing with the date. If I see the same again next month that would be a little more concerning. To me they are going to naturally pair up when the time is right, so I don't stay out all day just watching. I bet your...

    Weaning Beef Calves

Agreed you have to get the older one (s) off the cow. Just hurting yourself when the little ones miss meals.

    Bull not doing his job?

Late reply, but.... We have added a bull to a pasture of cows that already has a bull on when he seems to be "lazy". A little competition got him going quick. Left the 2nd bull on for a few day and pulled him off. Seemed to work. In your case with not actually witnessing him breeding, I wouldn't...

Calf Issues I have....Herd Health Related

PR, I understand some of what you are getting at and also hate how some care for their animals. However, I see A LOT of operations running EXACTLY like granddad did it 60 years ago. One producer here in my area gives on dose of Calvary 9 at around 3 months. That's it... They feel good in doing...

    Sometimes the apple....

Agree 100%!!! Everything here is calm around here or they are rowdy elsewhere. I just haven't patience for cattle that has that type personality. I'd cull her before the next bottle was feed to her calf.

    Any correlation????

PDF, I'm not trying to disagree at all. More adding some experiences/results I have seen first hand of feeding high protein wheat to P3 cows and also to P3 cows on mixed grass pastures in Sept/Oct. As I stated, I do believe a part of calving issues have to do with pelvic sizes. Also, fat or...

    Any correlation????

We have neighbors and 2 vets that graze all bred cows and heifers on wheat pasture and don't have anymore calving issues than their fall calving cows who calve on grass vs wheat. Their opinions are the same. Cows aren't overly fat, but are at peak performance if you will, when they calve. The...

    LOOOONG Labor

When I checked her the calf was still alive and her sack was still intact. Yes she's dripping, oozing etc but has a balloon of fluid hanging out. Never had one take this long, but vet said it could be because of twins or just the cow. Said if no calf In the morning, check calf again and pull...

    LOOOONG Labor

Have a 5 yr old cow that had a water bubble visible yesterday about 9am when I fed that group. Happened to drive by about 2pm and same thing. Got horse saddled and pushed her up to the chute. Checked her, and calf is presenting correctly. Cow hadn't dilated much at all if any at this point...
