    Heifers nursing each other. Problem?

We did. She brought $2600 long bred. Her replacement cost me $3750. Not sure if that's money ahead or not. LOL I guess if you look at it as "if we lost one calf because it starved," then yes, it was money ahead. The owner of the sale barn bought her and was fully informed of the problem since he...

    Heifers nursing each other. Problem?

Umm....ya...we sold her. I'm pretty sure it is NOT a hallmark of Salers. You want me to just shoot her so the trait can't be passed on or what?

So I never reported back the outcome of our problem. The problem has been solved. While at the this years production sale we bought a replacement and took the milk stealing hag to the sale barn. She is now comfortable in a pasture 3 miles north of the house in my buddies herd where she seems to...

    Heifers nursing each other. Problem?

I hadn't planned on doing anything when I originally posted the question because I didn't know what my options were at the time. Since all I read was sell sell sell sell sell, I decided that I should investigate this more as that was not an option that I wanted to explore. I am familiar with...

    Heifers nursing each other. Problem?

I've talked to a few folks in the industry that told me to put a bull ring in their noses. For a few dollars....I'll try it, but after they calve. I switched which ones I had in the 6 acre pen the couple I have in there now seem content. We will be getting 8 more in a few weeks so I'll just dump...

Thanks. I'm going to try to separate the other one off from the herd tonight. Lexi has proven she can escape. We will try Josie in the pen. Names...ya, I know....hell, our kids even name the calves. LOL

    Heifers nursing each other. Problem?

I have thick skin. Blunt replies don't bother me, this is daycare compared to the diesel forums. LOL We have 12 of these girls and will buy 8 more come end of Feb. Maybe it will be 10. These two are standing side by side sucking each other. I've seen them. The others at least have the decency...

    Heifers nursing each other. Problem?

They didn't have that problem until the last few months. It wasn't going on until we weaned the first set of calves off them and shipped them out.

    Heifers nursing each other. Problem?

Well, they are registered quality heifers bought last year so I'm trying to figure out what to do with them other than sell and re-buy bred ones at $2800 a pop. Dammit. Salers with great EPD's. This my first year with mommas so I'm trying to figure it all out. I figured it was a stupid question...

    Heifers nursing each other. Problem?

What is everyone thoughts on heifers nursing each other? We have two that won't leave each other alone. They are due to calve in 4-8 weeks. I tried separating them but barbed wire won't keep them apart. Other than locking one up in the pipe lot fence, I'm not sure what to do. Is this a problem...
