    Bale Grazing

I've done a little over time. For me the next year was not very impressive, however year 2 looked a lot better. I think it is a great tool if you don't have to graze it the next year. If you need the pasture for the next summer I think unrolling is the way to go. imo

    Hay prices skyrocketing

Did I read you right, when you said you paid $40 and now $60 for 500/600 lb bales? I only ask cause that seems kind of high for a bale that size. Right now in my area the price has gone up some but not to bad compared to what the rest of you are telling me. There was a online auction that just...

Got some of those good panels.

The ones my wife bought were slid into the upright pipe and just had a chain holding them from falling out. When you go to set them down the feet would keep turning on me, kind of a pain when you are doing it yourself. Also the ones we have have the legs on the end of the panel, so everytime...

Got some of those good panels.

I thought removable feet would be great until I got some of them. I prefer fixed foot position.

    Thick and thin

I'm assuming this is a first cutting for you up there? Do you even normally get a second crop?

    Hauling to pasture

I rented a pasture for the summer that's about 10 miles away from me. The plan is to haul them there next weekend. I just have 16 foot bumper trailer and was running over the possible ways of hauling the pairs up to it. There is an old cow yard at the pasture to keep everything contained until...

    Feeding hay

Old manure spreader with the chain on the floor, take the beater off the back. You'll be able to cut the strings once it is in the spreader and use the pto on the tractor to push it out.

    bale grazing versus unrolling

There has been a lot of discussion on here about both methods. I see the bale grazing argument being used for great regrowth on wore out ground, then you watch other videos that say that bale unrolling is the way to get the best regrowth. Just kind of curious if this is more of a case by case...

    unrolling hay questions

I see all the posts about unrolling hay and it has got me wondering? People show unrolling dry hay all the time, does anyone ever unroll wet bales? Does unrolling hay benefit me as much in ground value when there is 2 feet of snow and frost as it does when there is no snow and no frost, or am I...

    Tamping hay????

The last time I tarped hay I bought a normal tarp and threw ropes over it and had retaining wall blocks hanging on each side to keep it down. Tarp stayed in place but it was a pain in the butt when the sides started to freeze down. I've noticed people around me use old tires in the same manner I...

    It's a haylage year.

At least you have the option to store it up that way. Tubing hay has become very popular in my area as well.

    Renting ground for hay production

Have you looked into doing corn silage? A lot of big dairies here are going to that instead of so much hay, they're claiming they get more tonnage out of it? I know cows that are on it seem to end up fat and have larger calves, more potential to calving complications do to the weight though.

    Hay shortage

Getting enough hay is a problem for a large number of people in western wi this year. This got me wondering how many people buy there hay as they go through the winter rather than before winter hits? I was at a beef meeting this weekend and got on the discussion of having enough hay, when...

Thanks Kenny, where did you find the conversion for moisture weight?

    Weight of hay rolls

Just curious how balage would compare in these situations. I've bought 4x6 dry bales that weighed 1400lbs before and now there is a person in my area selling 4x6 balage bales and claiming they are 2500lbs. By sheer weight numbers if my cows eat a 4x5, 800lb dry bale a day one of these balage...
