Is it to late to plant a cover crop?

If you're north of Dallas longitude, probably. But you wouldn't be the first to take a gamble.

Who's fixin to start feeding hay

We're about a month out, if that, ordered some liquid feed, you'ld think I'd learn. What makes us do this? I have a new bull, a nice group of bought heifers, bred by him. And , of course I want to see the results of his breeding on the older , confirmed, bloodline, I just don't know where to...

letting cattle do the fertilizing ???

We both unroll, and feed in rings. Trying to cut down on fuel cost back and forth, so we typically unroll a bale after they get hungry, and load a ring or 2, we usually move the rings pretty often. We'll use a tire drag on nice days when the schedule is light.

Hay Test Results, Let's talk feeding rations.

That hay is good enough, for all purposes. Dry or wet cows, and calves on feed.

    Fertilizing pastures

Yes, the P does follow runoff, so be careful around water sources, tanks, ponds, ditches. The regs now aren't as strict, but common sense prevails.

    Fertilizing pastures

I know you have to get litter when you can, is it hen, pullet, or broiler litter? There's no way to know if it's too hot without an analysis. Around here , a 2ton/acre application would be towards the lighter side. I have applied 5ton on neglected ground, when it was free.

For the life of me, I'm not picturing how it works. 3pt and arm beds are prevalent here.

    Stockpiling Orchard Grass ?

What Kenny said, OG deteriorates fast, if you can graze it down quick you'll do OK

    Broiler litter

It's sold by the ton here, the market varies, generally 6$ a ton for spreading. Supposed to have an analysis, but that varies.

    Feeding Hay

To be fair, at this point we are feeding to stretch the grass, thats not all they have. We are lucky to have cheap hay available, but we also have access to end dump loads of noodles and pie crust from a local manufacturer on the cheap, if it gets really bad before the wheat comes up. Right now...

    Feeding Hay

We're aggressive with our stocking rate, we've made some changes, and are going to make more. But, we run into a late summer drought every year. It will rain, it always has.
