    feeding hay

I've got 45 head eating 1 round bale a day. I put out 2 bales every 2 days. I bought a couple of hay rings this year, and there is hardly any hay being wasted. They are hitting the protein licks and range mill hard too.

    Anyone Cutting Hay Yet?

I cut 25 acres Friday. I'll probably bale it Tuesday or Wednesday. Its been very dry around here for this time of year. We've gotten about a half inch of rain for April. I hope thats not a sign for things to come....

    Chicken litter?

5 years ago, you couldn't give chicken litter away. Now, everybody and their momma wants it. So many corn and cotton farmers want it now, the price has jumped from $3 a ton to $7 a ton here. Us chicken farmers aren't raising the prices, the corn and cotton farmers are offering more per ton just...

    Wet Hay

Johnny, Those are my houses. I've got ten. Thats our main source of income, but I'm trying to get a cow herd built up to help pay for retrofitting the chicken houses. That is IF you can make a profit off of cows :?: I grow for Raeford Farms. Your right about the loan and utilities. They...

    Wet Hay

This past summer I baled around 60 bales of hay that had gotten rained on. It was just one of those situations where I thought I had a window between showers to get it cut and baled, but it ended up getting wet. I stored it seperate from all of the good dry bales. When I feed hay now, I'll put...

    Disking Land

I had planted Bemuda, but coastal is starting to take over. It probably would be good to go ahead and disk now and plant some WW. I can always disk it again this spring if it needs it. Thanks for all of the advice.

    Disking Land

We recently cleared 80 acres behind our house. We have grass on about 80% of it now. It's pretty rough driving on it with all of the washouts and stump holes. My question is: When is the best time to disk it up to smooth it out? Fall or Spring? I know if I disk it now, I'll have to plant wheat...

    Hay prices

I've been selling mine for $25 a 4x5 bale. I've got Coastal fertilized with chicken litter. I have had several farmers stop and ask to buy hay. One was from Texas.

    Winter Grass

There were weeds mixed in with the winter grass, just as tall. But, maybe I did jump the gun and spray too early. Just trying to get ahead, IF that is possible.......

    Winter Grass

There was really no way to cut and bale the wheat and oats because the land was just cleared 2 years ago. There is still some debris left over (rocks, wood, ect.) Texan, so exactly what are you trying to say?

    Winter Grass

Wheat & Oats is what I call "winter grass". Right now it is about 3 ft tall and THICK. I live in north Louisiana, so it does get hot pretty quick. We just cleared this land a couple of years ago, and planted wheat and oats for the winter. We disked it up and planted bermuda during the spring...

    Grazon Application Costs?

Just had my pasture sprayed by helicopter for $32 an acre. Southland Spray Services did it. They work in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. It took them about an hour to spray 100 acres. That's alot quicker than I could ever think about doing it.

    Winter Grass

I just had my pastures sprayed with Grazon. 80 acres of it is winter grass that I won't be able to bushog for another 4 weeks because of spreading litter, cutting hay, and catching out chickens. My question is: Since a herbicide has been applied, shouldn't the winter grass die out and the...
