    Heifer to buy for Show/Farm

We had a 60 year Angus herd and switched to Herefords in 2000. I don't regret it at all. They are so much more docile than angus and perfect for a new showman. I would beinterested to know what Hereford's have a bad temperament Sim Angus. I don't know of any off hand. I've heard of a few Angus...

    county fair tomorrow

The fair starts tomorrow. I don't particularly enjoy it but the kids do. I think most counties have some quirky or weird thing that defines it. Our sheep show has the rule that everything gets sheared on the same day ( around the beginning of June) and you cannot touch them again ever or you...

No b&o was Friday and owned on Sunday. I have one better than that tho. Many years ago at the iowa state fair we showed an Angus that won its division in the feeder calf show one day and was last out of 19 the next day. I didn't find much humor in that!

In the B& O show he picked smaller cattle. The bigger ones got beat consistently. I thought we would be ok in the owned class, but he never looked at us.

It was really nice. We were in the sheep barn. I think it was cooler than the beef barn. The arena was air conditioned so that was good. The best western plus was a great hotel. Wash racks had plenty of room. Lots of electricity. We had 1100 head there and we didn't have any problems.

thanks all. We are hoping to show the heifer next year at jr. natls and around Iowa. We ordered and 11 x 14 of the cow calf from the pros too. We have a "wall of fame" that'll go on, along with the premier banners.

Thanks JHH. I meant to comment on your herf steer when I saw it posted. I thought he reminded me of our steer that I pictured above, but yours had more butt :) . That herf heifer is out of a SD cow and our good old Mac bull (a Tank son). Now that he's gone I appreciate him even more. Great...

thanks for taking all the heat VCC. I've been busy at our county fair (showing our hairy cattle  ) the past while. I get irritated by posters griping about the show cattle industry. If you don't like it, don't come to this topic. I don't like horses so I never read the horse section...

one more pic of the Heat Wave steer. He weighed 1390 and got second in class behind the eventually champion steer. Daughter learned a good life lesson on this one. He was the hairiest calf by far, and I think she thought she was going to win but he just didn't get the job done that day. these...
