    New Calf

That's for sure I could loose track of how many calves we've saved by doing a mid night check. Something to ponder is the time you feed,we feed just before dark because a cow with a full belly is more likely to calves during the day light hours. There is a name for the study on that I'll have...

Day in the life of me (pics)

Not really sure never have paid attention, our place is 10000 acres and we graze about 3800 of it any any given time. Right now we got 120 cows on 1900 acres and getting ready to start our fall gather to bring every thing home before we calves.

Well the 215 is the biggest we will drive over they will probably hold our D8 but we don't want to sink our cat and re building a bridge. We've had a dump truck loaded with rock over it though

    New Calf

I'll bite, pampered cattle tend to not do so well in tough times, if that cow cannot raise a healthy calf then ship her. Heifer or not if she's not mothering the snot out of that calf and she's wondering off and not sticking around so it can nurse and get milk she should be reevaluated not...

Yesir its a c215 we have another kolbelco excavator that's bigger with a thumb but it likes to run hot so we use it very little. We've been over the last decade been building bridges across all the creek crossings so we can keep trucks n equipment from getting stuck and tearing up the banks.

    New Calf

Ya I seconded that, that calf needs the colostrum in the first 24hrs before the stomach wall hardens up. By milking her out and busting the wax plug you run the risk of loosing that lucky the calf probably got the colostrum from the other tits but still.

Well we normally give shots at about five moths,we give a stand alone pink eye,8way with red water "important if you're stock drinks stagnant ponds" and black leg. We worm with a ivermectin pour on once they are branded and wormed again in the fall prior to shipping. With that said we also give...

    equipment purchases

There is some truth to that but there is also holes in your statement. How does a person who feeds 4500lbs of hay a day in big 4x4 bales rent or contract out tractor usage? That there would get expensive and about a wash on over head on owning a tractor having your own is a necessary evil...

Not many cords when you have a portable generator What you don't see in the photos to is we rope the calves out of the cows, meaning we don't sort off the cows. We don't use the chutes because there a death trap, people get hurt calves get banged around more than I like, when we rope we can lay a...

    equipment purchases

Take the cost of the tractor and divide it by the total acres you would be using the tractor on,any thing under $600 a acre is a good return on your investment its called "new paint disease". So if you got say 60 acres to use the tractor on and the tractor cost $4500/60acres=$75.00 a acres to...

We used the original concrete pillars about 3-4ft in the ground then bolted and welded guardrail to them. Works really slick we use these corrals for every thing, and we have a set of shipping corrals were in the process of revamping.
