    Bloated Calf

I don't think pot gutted. Have had one of those but this is quite different. This little fellow is bloated on both sides like he swallowed a balloon and is really tight. Yes he has a anus too but thanks to both of your comments. I'm beginning to think he was born with some kind of blockage or...

    Bloated Calf

Bermuda grass mostly, not a lot of clover. He has always looked that way. He was a big calf when born, we had to pull him. He has always looked a little bloated but now that he has some age on him he is really bloated and looks like he is malnutrition everywhere else except his stomach.

    Bloated Calf

He and his mother is on open pasture with other cattle. No hay, pastures are still green here. When he is not nursing he just stands around. I have never seen him eat grass. Thought I might try and offer him sweet feed but then again thought this may make him bloat even worse. Open for any...

    Update On Heifer Concern

Everybody happy today! Heifer, calf and me! Only feeding 1/2 bottle twice a day now. Will quit this week-end. Calf is nursing from behind and mother is letting it. O happy day after 2 weeks!

What age do they stop growing?

Well, I can tell you from experience that everyone says to breed at 14 months but everyone we did almost all had to have assistance with the calf. I wait till heifer is 18 or 19 months old and have not had to help one time so far. You may loose 4 months but thats better than losing a heifer...

    Update On Heifer Concern

I agree with both of you. The calf sucks the bottle then runs to her mother and sucks from behind. I try to be a little late in the afternoons and in the mornings so the calf will nurse her mother instead of the bottle and she has nursed before I get there, nose and face wet. Looks as if...

    Update On Heifer Concern

Put calf and heifer out into lot with other cattle Thursday. Heifer is taking a liking to the calf. Still kicks some when calf is trying to nurse, still taking it a bottle twice a day till I'm sure she is nursing mother all the time.

    Update On Heifer Concern

Purchased "O No More" and put on calf last night. Heifer seemed more attentative to the calf this morning but still will not let her nurse. Storms coming in tonight and they are in a muddy pen so let them out with the other cattle in a 20 acre lot. Will continue to bottle feed the calf twice...

    Heifer Concern

A friend of ours just told us about something he had that we are going to pick up and try. He said to just put it on the back of the calf and the cow will lick and lick it. The cows are suppose to love it. Hopefully this will work.

    Heifer Concern

Update: Just left heifer and calf and she still will not let the calf nurse. Fed calf a bottle, put heifer in head catcher and calf nursed back 2 dinners. 3 days now and still no luck. :cry2:

    Heifer Concern

Dun, her udder is normal, not too tight and not hot. She does have milk. Kerley thats a great idea. I think that may be some of our problem, she cannot see the calf nurse with her being in the head catcher but stand there and let her nurse if she is in the head catcher. At first I had to...

Thanks Kenny. We have not tried that. We have them both in 1 pen but we have 2 pens side by side so we could but the calf in the pen beside her mother during the day and let her in with her mother at night. Thanks alot. :)

    Heifer Concern

Thanks very much Hillsdown. She seems to like the calf, looks for it and moos for it, just will not let her nurse. Some heifer's are really alot of work. We've only had 1 other heifer to do this lately but she finally took her calf.

    Heifer Concern

Failed to mentioned when I saw this bag she had not passed her after birth but she had passed it about an hour later so I thought probably it was just water trapped in the first bag as mentioned before.
